Not worth that price for just a 10-ply maple.

I've heard bad things about Shine. Granted, it was a little while back when they were more or less starting out, so things could've improved, but personally I'm not willing to take that risk.
Just to put that out there.

mike johnston swears by that snare. (btw: he's an internet drum instructor, mostly on youtube.) have you heard it on his newest videos? it sounds very dry and precise to me, which makes me think it might not be the best for metal playing, but for funk it'd be great.

thats what i thought ...a great snare for funk...and perhaps some DNB you know tight lil ghost notes and all. ok so that is settled then what should i look at in terms of something for metal / hard rock playing. id like to stay round the same price range the snare i have now is a PDP EZ series ehhh better then the stainless steel one i had b4 that came with my kit warmer and better suited to a more wide range of playing not like the steel thats just loud all the time and no warmth...(this snare i have now is wood)...ok so if i get the MJ sig thats kool for like some of the things i play...how bout for the harder stuff what do ya guys think would be a good choice
