So, after the while of considering it, I finally got off my *** and scraped some money together; I can grab myself everything I need to convert my 18 floor into a bass. Only thing is, there are two commercially available conversion sets; Pearl's set, which goes for about $30, is specifically geared towards 16'' floors. Gilbatrar [sp?]'s set is about $80 and is not geared toweards any particular size. Since everyone loves saving money, may I ask if Pearl's conversion set will work with my 18? It says that it'll work with 16s, but hey, who doesn't like the concept for saving 40 bucks?

DW also makes one, but as you already know it's way overpriced.

Gibraltar hardware is the shiznit. It'd be worth the extra 40.

I personally would probably go with Gibraltar, but I don't see why the Pearl version wouldn't work fine.

drummaker.com has a couple knockoffs that might work better for you.

just a thought. Go to...
http://www.drummaker.com and click on "Hardware" and then on "Mounting" and then finally "BD Risers"

otherwise i vote gibraltar.

i have the pearl converter. it works fine for me, but i can't say for sure it'd work with an 18" drum. i don't see why not though.

i use one made by mapex for my 18" and it works well. It might have been around $30.
That piece doesn't get you the legs though, it's just a riser for the bass pedal. It holds the batter side up properly so you can focus the beater in the center of the head,
However, you would still have to come up with a way for the middle and reso side of the drum to sit up, or sit on something, such as legs or a drum riser.

Sine i'm looking to save some money, would it be fine to use unfinished bass hoops? Like does it affect the sound at all?
