Any audiobook aficionados here? I just got into them since getting a couple of mp3 players and have found them very enjoyable. My imagination really gets working with them. Same as when I read, but being read to is kind of nice. Some are sort of "stage play" like, but I like the straight read better.

So I just wanted to start a little thread to get some recommendations and have a bit of discussion. Any especially good ones out and about? Have any faves? I've been listening to some Stephen King shorts, Cycle Of The Werewolf, and Barack Obama's Audacity Of Hope. Barack reads! :p

I am d/l'ing No Country For Old Men atm. I was underwhelmed by the movie but liked the simple story. I'm hoping the audiobook will give me a new take on it. Really looking forward to it.

Check out "I have no mouth and I must scream". Most awesome 40 minutes of my life.

I find I really need to concentrate on the words when listening to one, otherwise I miss most of it. So, that leaves out doing anything else while listening to it, which pretty much defeats most of the point, in my mind. However, if I can sit back and just listen to one, it is very nice as I can't usually read very much at one time myself.

i'd rather just read a book myself, though i admit i've never tried an audiobook. can't imagine myself enjoying it.

I would not stand an audiobook and wouldn't have the patience to hear it. I read faster than a narrator would speak. Also, the narrator's voice would interject into the appropriate main character.
