pauly's was good i think, but having the original drum track in there made it hard to hear what he was playing vs. what already exists.

Caleb gets my vote.

I'm going to vote for Senseless. I'm currently working my way through The Art of Bop Drumming, so his video was quite motivational/inspirational/enjoyable.

I agree with Pauly.
I give Senseless props for doing something most people don't even venture trying. Especially at 3 20!
Killleddd it.

Pauly's was illll though.

Among others I also enjoyed Plan B's as well as Pauly's.

ALRIGHT here it goes::

i love senseless's cuz it just swung hard and didn't even see a single mistake

-enemey - great ****. just so solid with nice sublte hints of tech double bass

jezzen's was great cuz it was choppsy and solid as heck and live too

-iam joe - it seems like ur really gud but i don't really know quads at all. kinda found it hard to listen to

-houdini - lol i ddin't think i was gonna like this one bcause i'm not a big fan of drum corp **** but the "yeah" sealed the deal and i watched the whole thing lol. also the look when the dog barks is gold! your strokes are all really solid and even, and i can't do that **** at all, i've tried haha. nice going

jebus- this one suprized me lol, i thought it was gonna suck hard but you actually have mad chops! well done!

pauly- extremely solid, great song too! the cross stick section really adds a nice diversity. However i felt it lacked power and seemed to me like you think your cymbals are made of glass

zebba's i liked a lot because it was a true drum solo and didn't rely on a backing track which earns my respect. it also was just really fun. oh and sweet expressions! lol

caleb- ur playing is great, and i really wanted to like this one more but the shaking camera really put me off, but i'm glad that's the only thing, so like i said really colourful playing

we love lime- i almost lol'd, ahaha

anyway, my vote goes toooooooooo senseless but because and i say this with regret: i wanted to vote for caleb however it IS a video competion and the shaky cam ruined it for me, however i liked the playing better because his wasn't a play along and that's what i prefer usually because i feel like it's more of a true representation of the drummer and i really enjoyed the patterns and melodies i was hearing from his playing. i also wanted to vote for E2P2 just cuz it was so damn solid and like the only proggy kinda metally solo which was great

anyway congrats, effing FAB video my man

Damn this was hard! Caleb's was great, but I hated his drum tone. Pauly's was great!

I'm giving it to Senseless.

Senseless gets my vote.

I'm an avid Gordon Goodwin fan and you had some hip licks in there.

Why'd you almost lol Plan B?

Dude
I saw Gordon Goodwin's Big Fat Band live.
It was awful.
Great players, but they just looked like they were taking a piss.
Anytime you play "Play that funky music white boy" It HAS to be a disaster.

Are you kidding? That has to be one of the best big bands on the scene today.

Are you kidding? That has to be one of the best big bands on the scene today.

It was terrible.
You could tell they were all really good players, but as I said. Their set list suckeeeedddddddddddddddd

They played that, and like
Some theme song to John Williams or who knows what else.

It was terrible.

billdrum

They are a great band, but I don't like all of their arrangements. Some of them are incredible, and some are just so-so. And if they act bored on stage when performing live, then Lime is right, it's not an enjoyable show. I'd rather see a group like The Brian Setzer Orchestra who just have a blast performing than someone who looks like they'd rather not be there.

Advice for Caleb.

Perhaps don't play soo much. Like. Hit less **** less often.
When was the last time you heard a sax, or violin, or piano solo play 16th notes for 2 minutes?

Let the music breatheee.

It's just me though. Anybody else feel the same way?

fishbulb
05-19-2009, 05:53 PM
I do agree but for a slightly different reason. I like structure to performances, something that is consistent throughout each part of the piece.

That didn't quite come out how i wanted it to, but basically a chops-fest doesn't interest me (or many drummers as far as i know).

We_Love_Lime
05-19-2009, 06:20 PM
It has nothing to do with chops or no chops.

It has to do with playing musically

Actually, I agree completely, I'm a huge fan of space when playing, but it's also an important part of the jazz drumming tradition to be able to construct a solo underneath a swing, and also a lot of guys do regularly solo by keeping an almost constant flow of notes and building melodies with dynamics and orchestration. However, in that solo I didn't really build very strong melodies and a lot of it essentially amounted to bashing so I definitely agree with you on that. I appreciate the comment :)

Thanks for the feedback and the votes, and hopefully I'll get some "better" audio/video up on here at some point.

No problem dude.
Glad you took it sooo well :-D.

And yeah.
Art Blakey kills it.
I mean.
When you can play with as much power and speed as Blakey for 10 minutes, THEN you can do whatever the hell you want.

:p

Dunno if voting for this is over. But if it wasn't then Pauly would get it, and it'd be between Iamjoe2, Caleb and Senseless Apprentice for second. Looks like the standard of play has taken a few steps up here?! Well done to all, apart from the last one, wtf :P lol

SgtPrimus
06-11-2009, 10:40 AM
What's wrong with limes? It doesn't have to be on the drumset

Stickman Sam
06-11-2009, 06:01 PM
I didn't imply that. I'd like to direct your attention to my post, where I said that Iamjoe2 would be well up for second place IMO; he didn't play on the drumset.

From what I remember, I couldn't hear what was going on at all and it looked a bit jokey?
