View Full Version : User Nominations: Essentials of 1992-1997 (NO INSTRUMENTALS)

DO NOT VOTE FOR INSTRUMENTAL ALBUMS HERE; we will do a separate poll for those. Same format as last time. Choose your favorite three albums from each year (or less). If you don't think there were 3, 2, or even 1 essential album in a given year, then don't put any down.
You can use the RYM hip-hop charts as a nice resource: http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=1990s&genre_include=1&genres=Hip+Hop&include_child_genres=t&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=none&countries=

05-05-2009, 12:26 PM
finally, someone else voted for funcrusher plus, likely one of the best albums ever made. urgh.
kingsoby1
05-06-2009, 11:31 AM
come on, there's more than 9 assholes that use this forum.
horseypie
05-06-2009, 05:53 PM
i would vote but i dont really know what came out when and i dont think id have enough for three albums from each of these years
i can try it this afternoon hopefully when i get home if you want
kingsoby1
05-06-2009, 06:24 PM
oh, you dont have to have 3 at all. just whichever you think are notable from that year. check the rateyourmusic.com charts too... they're really useful for finding albums released in a given decade, just use find to search the year you're doing and voila.
horseypie
05-06-2009, 06:46 PM
righto ill do it 'sarvo
illmitch
05-07-2009, 12:46 AM
you can also specify by genre: hip hop, or even go more specific and search for east coast hip hop, west coast hip hop, or southern hip hop. that helped me find a lot of stuff i would've forgotten otherwise.
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 01:08 AM
i dont know enough hiphop albums to do this
but i'm not sure about the no intrumentals thing, it's hip hop
illmitch
05-07-2009, 01:09 AM
he means like albums with just beats, no rapping, a la Endtroducing
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 01:14 AM
yeah so do I, Entroducing is hiphop
just like breaking is
kingsoby1
05-07-2009, 10:54 AM
good idea let's start a best breaking thread.
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 11:19 AM
bad idea its a music forum
kingsoby1
05-07-2009, 11:22 AM
thx
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 12:34 PM
why aren't you taking me seriously
kingsoby1
05-07-2009, 01:13 PM
i'd rather have a separate thread outlining all of the notable instrumental hip-hop/ trip-hop albums. if i were a new listener reading these, and i heard quasimoto, id probably be like wow this isn't hiphop these guys are idiots.
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 03:41 PM
yeah that hypothetical dudes dumb
i know where you're coming from but dont really agree, i dont see much difference whether it has vocals or not
pixiesfanyo
05-07-2009, 04:00 PM
wait, why isn't quasimoto on the essential list?
easylee
05-07-2009, 04:03 PM
cuz if soby was new hed be confused DUH
kingsoby1
05-07-2009, 04:13 PM
duh
pixiesfanyo
05-07-2009, 04:31 PM
no, but like was it voted in or did nobody put The Unseen?
kingsoby1
05-07-2009, 04:43 PM
nobody put the unseen except 3 people.
4 was the cutoff... but it's more of an instrumental album anyway.
pixiesfanyo
05-07-2009, 04:46 PM
what do you mean? every track has rapping on it.
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 04:48 PM
isnt this the hiphop forum
pixiesfanyo
05-07-2009, 04:56 PM
we are going to do a thread where we ask for everyone's favorite instrumental records. that makes more sense as it'll be a more detailed look at the beats side of hip-hop.
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 05:02 PM
we are going to do a thread where we ask for everyone's favorite instrumental recordsyeah i know
its still the same ****
pixiesfanyo
05-07-2009, 05:03 PM
i don't think we're saying it is different. just that there is an inherent difference that if you listen to the genre you know and if you don't you'd be clueless to.
(*The Noonward Race*)
05-07-2009, 05:07 PM
of course it's your prerogative, do it that way man
