Half Steps

Just let out, sigh of relief
Crowd gasps, ‘nother source of grief
Can he understand the situation?
The hardest is still yet to come: assimilation.

Drinking water,
Thinking harder
"Be a part or
Be a martyr."

These are half steps
These are half steps
These are half steps
These are half steps

Ideas come like screaming jets
but all I’ve got are these dinky half steps
When I turn around all I see is halls
Behind the bars; you’ve got me by the balls.

Hide the pryin'
Keep on lyin',
Do it just in
Case they’re spyin'.

These are half steps
These are half steps
These are half steps
These are half steps

Alright this is my first attempt at lyrics ever, it's for a song that's kind of bouncy but dark and in 7/8. Tell me what you think about the lyrics, I'm not really sure if I'm doing it right if that makes sense.

Any criticism is appreciated, tell me if it's stupid or cliche or anything i could change to make it better.

This line doesn't fit in with the rhythm

Overall it's good, just that one line needs shortened to fit in. Also, you don't have to rhyme all the time. No pun intended.
