Here's a top 5 of mine in alpha order:
Broth Lynch Hung - The Ripgut Collection
Notorious B.I.G - Ready To Die
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
The Roots - Illadelph Halflife
Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek - Reflection Eternal

El-P - Fantastic Damage
Deltron 3030
Outkast - Aquemini

And these might not necessarily be the best, but these are MY favorites, ha.
Black Milk's Tronic and Waajeed's The War are approaching this status as well.

I like Black Star and Liquid Swords a lot, I nicked the Wu Tang and solo projects back catalouge of a friend and there's a lot of good stuff scatterd around on it, I might make osme kind of playlist of the best stuff. I also like Kanye West's stuff, dunno if that's allowed here though lol. Mos Def - The New Danger I have decided is pretty bad, I need to listen to some of his other stuff as I liked Black Star so he must have some other good stuff.

lovage can lick my nutsack. actually it's not too bad, just makes me think of this one chick that cheated on me a long time ago in a galaxy far far away
Been thinking about this a bit more and to add to Illmatic, the other records that I always return to are...
Aesop Rock - Labour Days
Charaizma and Peanut Butter Wolf - Big Shots
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek - Reflection Eternal
Why? - Elephant Eyelash
Wu Tang - 36 Chambers
Pretty obvious choices, but they're classics for a reason I think.

I'm quite fond of The Chronic, except for a few tracks.
There is like 2+ unsatisfactory songs in there plus unneeded filler.
36 Chambers and the Marshall Mathers Lp are great too.

Most of The Chronic is shockingly bad IMO. There are a few solid G-Funk sounds in it but the bulk of it bores me.
Illmatic is my favorite hip-hop record and Ready to Die was the first album to make me respect it as a genre.
I'm just getting into Big L, Lifestylez is completely sick.
