I've never posted on these here forums before. But there's been something that's bugging me, and there's really no other appropriate place to post my rants.

I don't condone illegally listening to music, however, I've been watching a lot of mewithoutYou bootlegs lately. Specifically from their new album. And I have to say, Aaron Weiss is losing it. I saw in an old video of him, around Catch for Us the Foxes era. In this video he explained how when he started out it was with selfish intentions of fame, glory, etc... And after reading some verses from the bible he decided he wanted to dedicate his music completely to god. That was fine by me. I'm not religious, but music is music as far as I'm concerned. And mewithoutYou was so intensely passionate that their religious messages were able to effect me as an atheist. That's what I liked about them.

Now listening to this new stuff. I can say right now he's going to alienate his non-christian fan base. The music is akin to something a counselor would sing over a campfire during bible camp. It's completely devoid of originality and creativity and is stripped down to the bare bones of worship. The lyrics are overtly Christian. Axing his usually introspective and universal, beautiful poetry. Straight homages to Jesus; literally "I love you God, you are the best".

It's not horrible but it's hardly worth listening to. When I say Weiss is losing his mind, I mean it. I watched closely to his monologues before each song and however much I scoffed at the rumors of autism, he at the very least has a case of aspergers. There is no doubt in mind. I've known a couple of people with this condition and he has an uncanny resemblance to the symptoms.

I feel very selfish in my thoughts, but I'm pretty freakin' bitter that he is wasting his talent. Plain and simple, that's how I feel, however horrible. This new music is not going to sell. I know that that's not music's purpose, but I think it's going to give him a rude awaking and he's going to lose popularity, and therefor his outlet for his worship.

If you don't believe me, go watch the videos on youtube. They're completely devoid of any musical substance and mewithoutYou has turned into Aaron Weiss' complete and fully-devoted project to his religion.

I give him my respects, because that's what he believes, but I think my tenure of listening to mewithoutYou is over.

I guess better wording would have been:

However much I previously scoffed at the rumors of autism, I now believe Aaron Weiss at least has a case of aspergers.

this guy i know went through a christianity phase in high school and listened to just about everything on solid state and tooth & nail, mainly. he liked extol too. i took out of it thinking mewithoutyou is ok and norma jean's first album to be the best of all of it. i've often lumped frodus in with it but would check it out on a whim

old mwY is amazing. Brother Sister was mediocre and if the downward trend continues I'd be done too, but AB Life and Foxes (and the EP) are so good.

When did I say they were bad?

They're one of my favorite bands. I'm just disappointed in the direction it appears the new album is going.

I appreciate all the great feedback!

I'm just like you guys. I look at a thread with a band I don't care to read about, and I say to myself:

I'm going to tell that guy just how little I care about his thread, that'll learn him to make valid threads about bands I don't like.

I'm not crying. I'm serious, there is nothing more thrilling than going out of your way to let someone know how much you don't care. A wiser man would think two posts in a thread you didn't care about would be quite the contradiction. However, I trust you just think you're doing the right thing.

What do you mean by "bootlegs"? Just videos of new songs online or what? If you've got the new album I'd like to know where you would acrue such material...

I saw a bootleg of a new song or two, and they seemed a bit uninspired. I heard a new song on their myspace too, and while it was a bit quirky it lacked any of their usual intensity and memorability. I have a bit of synaesthesia, and I remember the song being pink, so I'm not sure what that tells you.

Brother, Sister and Catch For Us The Foxes are awesome albums. Even [A--> B] Life had it's moments and was obviously pretty raw. They are basically getting less and less raw and punk, I didn't think the lyrics were decreasing until these new songs though.

Oh well, I'm still hopeful.

this leaked today. i'm not sure about it yet. it's a lot more melodic and a lot sunnier than previous mewithoutYou albums. aaron is almost exclusively singing properly. i kind of preferred it when he was a little less content.

Is the new song "every thought a thought of you"? If so, it's pretty happy for mewithoutYou...."every song in praise of you"...I don't really care that he's singing about God tbh, even if it's more obvious here.

I feel like I should be skipping around and hugging my neighbor while I listen to this album.

It's a solid record so far; I mean when you like it as a stand alone record and you ignore their other albums. But this is just not my style -- I'm sorry if that pisses so many people off. As you listen to their records it seems like Aaron and the band finally found their peace, and shook the angst away. Good for them, but I truly miss the passionate angst.

I know what your talking about, how the new album sounds like christian campfire songs. I was kind of disapointed, and i find myself just only listening to the first two tracks on it.

Brother, Sister was way better than this ****
