They're pretty sick. My favorite thing of theirs is actually The Mix Up, which is more of a jazz-funk album than anything, them just laying down grooves. I love it. But they've released some intense songs in their time, and in my opinion they can't be overlooked.

Mix Master Mike is probably one of the most important DJs ever.

plus dude can STILL tear it up which is impressive for one of the original DefJam artists.

Outisde Paul's Boutique they've always been over-rated, but having said that you could easily make a 2-disc set by them where EVERY track is a classic banger. So.....love/hate I suppose.

I dunno, I reckon it's exactly the right amount of 'rated'. I mean it's not some huge blockbuster record that makes reader-voted top 100 lists or whatever, but at the same time, the heads recognize it as a classic. That seems right to me. It's one of the 100 best hip-hop albums ever but not one of the top 10.

Well, No Sleep til Brooklyn and Fight For Your Right

I used to own that album, thought the rest of the album was disappointing.

I can see why people would dislike them, they've release a lot of crap, but I'd they've released at least two classic albums.

The Mix Up though, wtf?

I'm not too fond of them -- but I do not hate them.

"Brass Monkey" and "You've Gotta Fight" (?) are two of the most annoying sounding songs I've ever heard. However, there are many songs I do enjoy by the Beastie Boys.

I do respect them for what they have accomplished though.
