I'm a big fan of The Roots, one of my hip-hop gateway bands. So far I've only built up my collection to Do You Want More, Illadelph Halflife, Things Come Apart, and Rising Down.
I love ?uestlove's drumming, I've taken a lot of influence from him as of late. He understands that often simplicity is more, but man can he groove at times. I'm still waiting for a chance at a live show of these guys.
I'm curios to know what are some other hip-hop groups out there that are set-up as a band like The Roots? I haven't come across much at all...
Discuss The Roots!

I dont know, everyone always talks about how underrated he is to a point where for me the guy is pretty overrated as a result.

0Yeah I think it's cool they doing Late Night. For someone like ?uest to be promoting groovy music on a national stage is really neat.
What type of thing do they play on Late Night?

It's pretty cool. Sometimes they'll play around with Jimmy Fallon, like when he had Timberlake on and the Roots played a John Mayer song and Timberlake sang it as Mayer. The downside of course is that you have to sit through a shitload of Fallon's nervous shtick to hear anything cool.
Favourite albums, guys? For me it's definitely Do You Want More. I love how open it is.

do you want more and things fall apart are nearly tied for me. TFA wins out b/c it was a key album for me getting into hiphop. plus the dilla beat <3... the whole record has a bit of a more modern feel than DYWM, but not so much as to sound over-produced like everything phrenology and later.

I just think it would have been better to put the Jill Scott track on instead of Badu's version. **** like that bothers me.

Mine's probably actually Illadelph Halflife. I love the vibe throughout the album, very chill and loose. TFA gets the honorable mention cause it's arguably their pinnacle, and probably rightfully so.
pretty phenomenal live show.
This. Best live act I've ever seen, hands down.
And they're a rap act that are getting better as they get older, wtf is all that about.
Favourite album is Game Theory.
