Which do you attend or did you attend? If both, which did you prefer?

I went to public school all my life and never had a problem with it. And not in the best neighborhoods, either. I knew a lot of kids who went to private school, but they seemed like dicks much of the time. And the guys who went to all guy schools seemed like such fags. Couldn't even get any nookie at lunch time and always had those stupid socials / dances with all the local private school girls

Gimme public education anytime over private school. Over crowded classrooms, hot babes, and dumb teachers made a first class citizen out of me :smoke:

Everybody goes to public schools here except a few rich kids and religious nuts.

They are fine, except the buildings of some are old.

Public schools in America look kind of crappy to me although that may just be Republican propaganda.

I attended public school up to 7th grade. 7th grade till 12th was in a private school. Private school didn't prepare me for college at all.

Totally depends on where you are. Here in upstate NY there are a lot of good public schools, and private ones. However I would send my kid to a public school for most of his education.

public h.s

private university for 3 semesters. I liked it. There really wasn't any research there, so professors were hired to just teach, so they were much more concerned about the students actually learning and understanding the material. And it wasn't religious or anything, it was just a small specialized school in aero/astro-nautics.

Downside was that I didn't want to do that anymore, so there was nothing else worthwhile doing there, and now I go to public university back home. It's just bigger, and much more bureaucratic. But there's a lot more to do if I wanted to, and more diverse people.

I've been to 2 public schools and 2 private schools. in NYC, there is no contest- the private schools are much better, except for MAYBE a handful of the 'elite' public schools. anyway I think it's all bollocks.

Public for grade school and private for college. Although I don't think there's much of a difference between a private college and public one besides size in most cases.

The charter schools in the town where I grew up are very successful. If the program is used correctly, it's very effective

Ideally, the public schools would be as good as the private schools.... but they're not.

Charter schools are a good thing where public schools are poor

When I visited Cornell, I was in a group with a bunch of private schoolers. In fact, I was the only public school student there to my knowledge. We were discussing classes, and they were all in a few AP courses, and a few were even in 4 and this was very impressive. So I was asked if I was in any AP courses at my public school. I answered that I was in 5 at the time, having completed 6 the previous year, and was also enrolled in a few community college courses, and all of that for free.

I've been to public, catholic, private and charter. They were all pretty amazing except for public middle schools.

Catholic up until eighth and then public high school is probably the route to go.

I went to catholic grade school and public middle and high school. My grade school was great. I only had 12-15 kids in my class so we all got plenty of attention from the teacher.

My public high school experience is that if you want to do well, that option is available. But if you want to fail, you'll fail and nobody will really do much to stop you.

They literally had people following me to classes and sitting down next to me to make sure I did my work.

That last part was probably my parents' idea though.

I went to private schools. But in the area I live the difference between private and public is pretty much; one has a stricter uniform, believes in jesus and has one aboriginal per grade, the other let's has lots of them. There wasn't any difference outside of that.

I've always gone to a private, very strict, religious school here in sweden, with uniforms and all that, but now I'm in some public uni and I dont like it at all, it's too messy, too many people

Went to nursery and had first year of school in state education then private school for four years then back into state again.

Private school did a lot for me education-wise; the [very] small classes and access to loads more stuff than you get in state schools had definite advantages. Socially I was a bit screwed up when I went came out of it though. It was a single sex school and there weren't that many kids (in one year I was in a class of five people altogether, and that was two years put together) my own age to hang out with so it was a bit of a shock.

My brother went to a couple of different private schools for younger because he's dyslexic and parents thought he needed the extra help. Idk there are advantages and disadvantages to both but I'm much happier saying that I've had a state education and normally avoid telling people I've been to public school because people do sort of judge you.

Private schools are SO overpriced and don't guarantee grades, so I am pretty glad I didn't go to one. Although I am glad I went to a private nursery because it meant I could already read and write to an extent when I got to primary school.

Grammar school was definitely the right choice for my secondary school though. I hate the debate about closing them all down.

I went to a private school although I would have preferred to go to a public school. My dad dicked around at school and was dead set on giving me a good education. However, he became ill around the time I started to go to high school with Huntington's disease so the only reason I managed to get into a private school was because the school gave me a grant so that my parents didn't have to pay the extortionate fees. (they couldn't afford to anyway as only my mum was only able to work)

Waste of time forking out stupid sums of money in my personal opinion, I would have been happy at a public school.

I just checked my high school website, the tutorial fees for an academic year is £12,816.

Absolute joke.

I went to a state (public) school. I lived in a really rich area though, so a much higher proportion of the students actually cared about education - our school got higher grades than most of the private ones.
