Have any of you heard of this yet?
It's Illinoise, remixed by guys like Aesop Rock, Brother Ali and Outcast.
It's like the 'Walk This Way' of the indie generation
Instead of seeing rap and rock fusion commercially to the result of an utter piece of ****, we're witnessing indie rock and indie hip hop, both genre outcasts which have since proven culturally to have some serious power, to both come together not commercially, but in true recognition and admiration of the musical sovereignity of the other.
It shows the power of a lot of the different hip hop artists just as supremely as it shows the power of Sufjan, whose influence was the cause of the album in the first place. You can tell just by listening that everyone involved really truly enjoyed and respected being a part of it.

All I could tell is that it was really boring and made me want to fall asleep, like all other indie music.

It's like... not only good, it's good enough to stand on its own. It's not just good because it's sufjan, it's not just good because it's aesop rock, it's good all by itself as its own entity

it would be nice music to socialize to, however as far as listening goes it is pretty one dimensional.

*cough* like all of sufjan's stuff. one dimensionality is his forte

At the very least, the first track is brilliant. If you're not a hip hop person than I guess I would see why you wouldn't appreciate it

appreciate is a strong word.

It's just odd because I've been putting this on for basically everyone around me and everyone pretty much loves it. *shrug* not that you have to or anything, but it's unwise to deny its majesty

i'm curious why you think a song that has one (1) musical theme is brilliant? i just forced myself to not turn it off and sure enough, the same 4 chord progression and beat is consistent for the entire 4:38. i'm sorry dude, it's just boring, at least most rap songs have a verse and chorus.

lyrically speaking it's very good, and it's very musical the whole way through- both aesop's rapping and sufjan's music. if you listen to some of aes's good songs, they each will have a half dozen or more lines that on their own could make a hip hop song good. and he's a very compelling rapper. though the progression doesn't change (so...?) Aesop's phrasing does change to different themes that are consistent throughout
One of the things that I like most about it is that it has two different hooks which are both good hooks for different reasons. It really gives the music as high a seat in the finished product as the rapping, which can be pretty ****ing rare.
So why do I like it so much?
Because it's good hip hop AND good music

that's nice, the music has no variation, it grinds in my ears every time the boring progression starts over. that's all.

I don't know why I threw that in there. Probably because I heard a few 'uhs' and a 'yea'.. There's probably a few drop the beat's and the n word but I didn't listen too much

Brother Ali is the man. His voice is just awesome. I love to hear hip hop that's not self consciously tough or self consciously cool but just good and honest
