:smoke:

Since smoking has become so gauche, I figure smokers need a little refuge. No hate.

Simply, post about smoking.

I've been smoking about three years, have quit a few times, but I really can't be bothered to try to go without them right now. My life is really stressful and cigs keep me in a comfort zone. On average, I probably go through a pack every three days. I've cut back, used to be more than a half pack a day.

Personally, I'm pissed that Camel has discontinued the Turkish line, that was pretty much all I smoke. I'll probably stick with Marlboro 27s now.

The tax hike sucks too. I remember being able to buy a pack and a lighter for under $5.

I picked up some new tobacco today on the way home because I've run out.
There's a great little shop in Leeds that sells loads of different rolling 'bacca and pipes, cigars etc etc

I got some cherry brandy and vanilla. I use really thin skins and cherry filters :)

One thing that I find funny is that a lot of my friends who smoke will complain if I say that they should think about quitting...

..and yet most smokers will not hesitate for even a second before asking anyone and everyone around them if they will have a cigarette with them

I've been smoking even with a heavy cold/flu pretty much every day for four years. I decided to quit as it was affecting my breathing and stuff. I guess I didn't think about the underlying health issues properly when I started smoking. I started smoking to relieve the stress of my father dying 4 years ago. I've just read this book called 'EasyWay' by Allen Carr, which is great motivation to helping you quit as it doesn't patronize you and makes you realise you don't actually need cigarettes. You're right in a sense that I haven't actually quit yet but I have had minimal cravings and no longer have the desire to spark up after a meal or in the morning etc. That book is scary **** in that it helps.

I'm sorry man, I shouldn't have even said it that way if you are really trying to quit. I'll support anyone who is trying to quit. Unless I hate them. But THE THING about cigarettes is that the addiction really has staying power, and it builds cumulatively. You can steadily build an addiction even if you only smoke one cigarette a week... even starting from just that, eventually you are likely to get hooked. That's what makes it so tough.

In fact I just smoked a cigarette today for the first time in over two months so there you have it

No worries man, I've had my friend at work recently telling me he was gonna quit, make a big deal out of it and not even lasted a day. The book I read, while not trying to plug things, is great, it basically hands to you on a plate what you already know about cigarettes and makes you realise that you don't need them. It's not brain washing or anything it's just telling you what you already know to help you quit. I've only been 4 days but there's been times (like now for example when I've been drinking) where I want a cigarette but I know I don't need one to get rid of the feeling/craving I have and after a few minutes the craving goes.

It's weird how it works, I can't describe it but the more cravings I have, the less I want a cigarette. Mainly because I think back to all the times where I've been smoking with a cold/flu and I don't want to etc and waking up to a tight chest and coughing like a bitch.

Attaching a negative association to the craving is a really good advantage. Most people oddly enough attach positive associations to their cravings, eg 'aah it feels so good to just have a cigarette,' 'aah it really clears my head to have a cigarette' etc etc

the point they are missing is that it is the cigarettes in the first place which are giving them a lot of stress, and it is the act of momentarily easing the craving that gives them pleasure, not the cigarette itself

there are some pleasures to cigarettes, but at a certain point you really have to ask yourself if you want to be a smoker, it is worth it to become addicted

jeez we are turning the smoker's lounge into like a NOT smoker's lounge how wild is that!

viciouscycle
03-24-2009, 08:12 PM
Gabe you're so wild

Also the negative relationship is what I've got going on and I hardly feel a craving. Smelling it turns me off, and it always did, but more so now.

There's much better ways to reduce stress. They actually increase your heart rate and make you tenser. The only thing "relieving" the nicotine trying to kill you, which is actually how that buzz is caused, but your body fights it off.

There is only one way to stop smoking and that is to stop smoking. You can try to get there in different ways, but ultimately it comes down to whether or not you can not smoke a cigarette. It's as simple as that

Last night enjoyed some fat cubans with my dad and his friends and oh my god i was buzzed out of my mind. I only smoke tobacco about twice a month and these were big and strong as hell. I got some pretty bad nausea after finishing it and even after I woke up this morning I could still taste the damn thing.

I smoke rollies because they have more nicotine per square inch, they are harsh on the body/throat so you know when you should stop, ahah

Oh yeah.

I smoked them for months, so many folk would complain and say "Can't you just spend an extra 10p to get different ones"?
Smoke rollies now. I only regretted it when I was wasted and couldn't roll a cig while I was drunk, which my mates always found funny =/

Don't smoke cigs too heavily, usually like a pack a month. Mostly Marlboro menthol lights or camel turkish silvers. most of my friends that smoke go with newport menthols which i can't stand for some reason.

This just reminded me to go looking for cloves since the store I used to go to closed down.

Man, I also need to go easier on smoking when I do. I don't smoke often but sometimes we'll set up a hookah and everyone else always quits before me...I have a thing about using stuff up or finishing it out. As a result my lung capacity gets owned. I tried going for a bike ride the day after one of those binges and ****.

Anyway, cloves are great. I think my favorites are the Djarum Specials.

but yeah i smoke camel wides and unfiltered luckies when i can manage to spend 8 bucks a pack on them. i go through a pack every 4-7 days.

Whenever I'm at a party and people have been drinking, somebody ends up yelling "clove hit" and doing that with cloves. It's pretty intense if you're not careful. I think the most I've ever done, to drunken shouts of "three to the face!" was a clove hit along with two other cloves also in my mouth.

Also, Obama just signed an anti-smoking bill that does a bunch of things, including making cloves illegal. God dammit. Instead of moving towards decriminalizing drugs, we're going the opposite direction. It goes into effect in September.

It's kind of hilarious

Anyway, banning flavored cigarettes is stupid and the American tobacco companies that helped push the law through are probably more than happy to ban cloves since they come from Indonesia. Protectionism ftw
