Now that the audio arena is closed, Aaron suggested we mimic its purpose in a mega thread. Post links to mp3s and streams of your music here for feedback.

Woo, I get a name-drop. I'm in the process of building my own website for my music and netlabel, but for now you can listen to a bit at these two myspaces:

myspace.com/catfightonahotdog
myspace.com/aaronjcoxmusic

I have an album out, Turned Into A Pillar Of Salt, and an EP, Stoned Whales EP. Also am testing my newest album with a group of listeners to see if it's ready. Drop me a message if you want a copy of any of them, am putting them out for free for now. Feedback always welcome. I am also looking for artists who want to be part of my netlabel, so yeah, drop me a line.

i liked your music. Im a producer as well and i rap on my beats, unfortunately i dont have a microphone, so all my recordings are just beats right now and i rap them live.
let me know what you think, they're pretty straight forward and untextured compared to some of yours, especially the third one you posted. i liked that quite a lot.

no one actually likes this, but I'm posting as always: http://www.last.fm/music/indietrash/guilty+till+proven+innocent

according to last.fm it's "rock, noise, thrash metal" (in that order). the three most similar artists (still on last.fm) are:
1. mamma, jeg blör...
2. Mom & Johnson Loneliness Missed The 12th Loveboat
3. *luhn.

to name three more similar artists that are more popular/known:
1. My Bloody Valentine
2. Throbbing Gristle
3. Anaal Nathrakh

Actually...

The audio arena was the best selling point of these forums. Being one of the few places that you could post and recieve feedback without releasing a product.

For whatever reason it had been closed, I would not be surpirsed if the demographic of users become redirected to alternative sites.

It is my humble opinon that this may be a serious mistake on the administators behalf.

ikikdababy
03-19-2009, 02:53 AM
Good opinion.

The idea is that this thread now replaces the Audio Arena.

It's a little harder to signpost this for new users, but for those who used the place before, the transition is pretty seamless.

That entire forum could be condensed pretty easily into a single thread... and so it was.

Especially considering the average thread in Audio Arena got about five posts.

I last visited back in December and was surprised to see the 'Audio Arena' long gone. Anyway, i'll post what I had come to post:

http://www.myspace.com/AreaZeroOne

I uploaded 3 demos up yesterday after removing what were basically place-holding demos. The ones up there now will make up the 5 demos I had planned to have ready last week.

:edit: forgot to add that i'm looking for full-time band members as well.

alright phrasing i guess for a rubato type section
bends suck ***
the background sounds like one track in reverse with a fast phaser on it i think you could spice that up
the unaccompanied guitar soloing is okay,
you either know some harmony or a kind of okay at suggesting chords (proly wat u said bout classical influence) which is not bad but not great either, also learn how to do triplets right, use a metronome
the guitar delay effect should definitely be drier i think

in my personal opinion: it's guitar noddly noodly nothing
ur not a good guitarist/musician at this point

that's my  review

Akasashinai
05-24-2009, 12:01 PM
thankyou for that. i will take that to heart. not to make excuses, but on the topic of my triplets, i have no way of putting percussion into my tracks, which would at least give me that extra backbone to play over. I will probably be taking down the "improvisation" track... that truly was noodling, you were right, it was sort of like my mini sketchbook to at least have something to work from.

any comments on Stargaze Desert though guys? that's my main point of interest currently.

Hey guys nice thread

You can hear my horrible music by going to

www.myspace.com/benrowlandmusic

By the way this is nothing compared to what I'm working on at the moment but yeah if you play it loud enough it packs a punch. I also had a SoundClick once but had to get rid of a load of songs because they were bad, and I need to remix them.

Most recent experiment here "Sight and Mind" http://www.zshare.net/audio/604740823ce95541/

Actually Sight and Mind is pretty tame compared to what I'm working on right now but yeah enjoy, free music ftw

Most of you guys will dig "As All The Seconds Pass"

Lyrics to Sight and Mind

Lose your sight and your mind, just leave them behind
Its better you'll find being stricken down blind,
To all you once saw, you will see no more,
Lie back and relax in your own blissful states now!
Lose your mind and your sight, see permanent night,
You know that I'm right spread your arms and take flight,
From all you once saw, you won't see anymore,
Little will you know that this haven is actually your shelter

Release your remaining senses
Forget all you knew
Cast down the shackles
Make haste your escape from that wretched world!

Lose your sight and your mind, just leave them behind
Its better you'll find being stricken down blind,
To all you once saw, you will see no more,
Lie back and relax in your own blissful states now!
Lose your mind and your sight, see permanent night,
You know that I'm right spread your arms and take flight,
From all you once saw, you won't see anymore,
But you will always be dead to me.

we've got one studio track and a bunch of live tracks up right now. we've been starting a bit of a new thing over in our demographic in NYC- we're playing this psychedelic kind of post rock thing in the middle of this bullshit indie explosion... the only music people play is dumb indie rock or REALLY dumb post punk and we show up and just play these 8 minute psychedelic rock songs

this sounds pretty good ben rowland but maybe you should think of a better band name. But it sounds a little hard to hear your vocals maybe you should turn them up. Also the drums are all like duhduhduhduhduh like constant notes maybe you should have them not play notes every once in a while, lol no offense it was pretty good all in all.

http://www.myspace.com/daturany

I like the frying pan noise at the beginning of the first song, and the drums and instruments are recorded really good but it just sounds like Red Hot Chilli Peppers or something lol. No offense but a little too conformist for me. Lol the vocals sounds like a hobbit or something.

I don't know what ads you're talking about but you don't sound like sell outs to me. Lol the singing and stuff is just weird. It sounds like creed when you start singing for real.

http://www.myspace.com/meroki

At first I thought you were the best band on here then it got a little green day sounding. Nah I mean all in all its a little rocking but kinda starts to sound too poppy. But you did a good job recording it and everything. The guitars are just a little too waddla waddla waddla you know? Lol

Whatever you put up a cover as your first song? first of all this doesn't sound anything like the Number Twelve Looks Like You version, I don't know what you're trying to pull.

Okay, here is my band. Please go easy we had really crappy equipment to record on but we tried all day, it took us like 18 tries to record this song. I didnt come out perfect you can tell we messed up at the end but it will have to do for now. Please give me any comments you have.

Honestly dude just do everything to a click track in the future and it'll help you a million x.

Also the way the drums are mixed so snappy and so far in the front reaallyyy is a little unnerving. if you can tone them down and make them feel more natural and sync your guitar work up a little bit better to the drums then you're golden

Thank you both!

Yeah, that was my new band's first foray into the studio. There were some problems during the mixing process (studio flooded @_@) so we recorded that in february/march, but only Crossed was able to be finished until now

Honestly, we have developed so much since then that I cannot WAIT to get back into the studio and record something that's more representational of what we're doing these days. . I can sing SO much better now, we're all much tighter as a band, and we have so many new ideas

It's funny that you say Minus the Bear though. . . Minus the Bear have become a pretty big influence on myself and Jeremy (my conspirator in crime & 2nd guitar & 2nd vocals) but I was like JUST discovering them back when we recorded that stuff. . . hadn't heard enough for them to sink in or anything. Jeremy hadn't even heard of them at that point.

Now he likes them more than I do : P he loves to loop his guitar parts and speed them up/slow them down on his DL 4 (or rather, his gigantic multi effects pedal which consists of every line6 effect ever created) but he does it for more of an ambient effect, rather than looping melodic lines

Thanks for the feedback, ya? I also wanna post some live tracks now, so you can get a better idea of what we do. Check out http://www.daturany.bandcamp.com if you'd like

How are these recorded? I like the songs but I think they need some production to sound a little less bare. You guys are good though so once you get into a studio again you should make the most of it! KUTGW

We recorded in one day in possibly the weirdest situation I've been in. We were set up in a hallway of this warehouse with a crazy *** sludge band playing loud as **** in the next room. (They are actually pretty good, they're called Armed For Apocalypse) But we miked the drums and did direct input for everything else. We did the vocals the next day cause our singer got drunk waiting for his turn.

Do you know specifically what kind of production techniques would fill in the tracks? Could it be something as simple as doubling the guitars? Im not a pro at producing but I know the songs do have a "bare" sound to them.

GorgeousGabe

1 is that there is just no texture to the guitars. you say you recorded DI, it sounds like your engineer just kind of mixed the guitars to sound a little hotter and called it a day

we doubled up a lot of tracks and a lot of our rhythm parts are more than one guitar tracks- one playing the chords clean and straight, one doing chunky distorted strokes on the 1, one on the acoustic, etc etc etc

the philosophy we follow is that less is more. . . break your guitar parts down into their simplest components, and then record that. . . then overdub playing your flourishes, overdub with the acoustic, lots of little parts that come together to make one big sound, as opposed to trying to fill as much space as possible with just one guitar track

a little bit of reverb or delay can also go a long long way

If you could even take those tracks and put in some overdubs to add a bit of texture and a bit more presence it'd make a big difference I think

Beyond even the powerful Operating Thetan levels comes "Cleared Theta Clear," a godlike state which Hubbard describes this way:

"A thetan who is completely rehabilitated and can do everything a thetan should do, such as move MEST and control others from a distance, or create his own universe; a person who is able to create his own universe or, living in the MEST universe is able to create illusions perceivable by others at will, to handle MEST universe objects without mechanical means and to have and feel no need of bodies or even the MEST universe to keep himself and his friends interested in existence."

This song was recorded with two really cheap mics, so sound quality is bad. But we're hoping to fix that soon. I really can't tell if we're going down the right road or not. PLEASE help.

Sophomore year of high school a buddy of mine and I jammed horrible jams and recorded them. We then added our chorus kid buddy to sing his horrible lyrics. Check it out: www.myspace.com/outlets

I was in a punk-ish type of band that probably really isn't even punk anyway my senior year of high school, but it was fun to jam with my buddies: www.garageband.com/artist/dublhandi

This is the most recent band I was in. We got recorded at a show we played at a bar, but it was our worst performance ever. Oh well, at least we got recorded, eh? www.myspace.com/renowalrus
