Job interview tomorrow. Full-time position at a grocery store three of my friends work at. Is this not elite?
I mean, it's not good work, but it's freaking work.
Changing this to 'the job thread' in the new community mega thread style.
Grocery store work is not elite.

I did that grocery store bullshit for four years. Although, most of it was in the video department, which, out of the other departments, was a pretty slick and easy spot.
But omfg, soccer mom's and their bullshit whining over anything small really gets to you. Not because it is blown out proportion, but you have to deal with that **** every day.
As of right now, I got out of that and am now working as a janitor. That's cool, it's about $2,000 a month. However, I have amassed $13,000 to pay for my flight school. I may have a way better job prospect as an armed security guard. I just have call the human resources department and inquire about getting those credentials. If I do manage to score a job as a security guard, I'll be making $4,000 a month on a 2 weeks on/off schedule. I can do my flight school training on my 2 weeks off and get all the **** I need to get a career in aviation.

hmmm ... well, when I worked at wholefoods (worst job ever), I was surrounded by these white-hipster types who were gun-ho about the organic lifestyle and who had completely bought into the whole Wholefoods-is-the-greatest mentality. Wholefoods career-cats, if you will ... and they were fanatical about it. I reminded them daily (and rather vocally) that at the end of the day, they were STILL just working at a grocery store making $10/hour (which is actually pretty good for a grocery store).

Too long.
I signed up for a 10-month internship with the SCA (Student Conservation Association) and Americorp in case I don't find anything this summer. I've been actively searching and applying but everything keeps falling through.
The internship starts in October, you teach kids about the environment during the winter and do trail construction in the summer. Student loan payments are deferred with no increase in interest and you get $4,500 as the academic award at the end. Plus, it'll help if I want to pursue a career in the parks dept or the USDA or something similar.

I'm considering joining the armed forces once I'm fit enough for selection to get me out of my boring job doing crappy maintanence. I won't be going into combat, doing administration (which is what I'm good at and enjoy). It seems to be one of the most stable places to work (i.e the army is short of recruits at the moment and they don't really make you redundant). Would get to travel and get paid for it as well. Would be hard work but then again what isn't?

My stepbro was a paralegal in the Marines and he still had to head out to Iraq and go through a little BS. Then again....that may just be the Marines for you.
Be careful dude!

I'm very tempted to join a Territorial army unit near me as I could get experience and learn a new skills while still in my civilian job and get paid for it. I'd be nowhere near the standard required for the Marines.

Had an interview today at a local credit union. If they liked me enough then I'll have another interview with the branch manager.
