Just wondering if there's any good bands out there that are fast and technical, but still heavy, like BTBAM and Protest the Hero. I prefer harsher vocals, but singing will do too. So GET TO ITT!

I guess TDEP, Dream Theater, Sikth is a good place to start.

I was gonna say Sikth; also you might like The Fall of Troy if you haven't heard them already they're kind of in the same realm as PTH only less tech and gay

Also look into the Sawtooth Grin just because they're awesome and if you like them you'll be glad I told you

BTBAM and Protest The Hero are completely different bands.

That is why I recommended TFoT and Sawtooth Grin, two equally similar but completely unrelated bands

Alright I liked sikth quite a bit, Sawtooth grin was AWESOME, and I've heard the fall of troy quite a bit. They're not bad, I just don't listen to them too often. Thanks though guys!

Yay!:chug:

If you liked that you might want to look into some of the less death metal-ish grind bands like Gridlink or maybe Psyopus but you should definitely also look into Pig Destroyer as they are best grind band ever

malaise

Disregard that Psyopus recommendation.

Panopticon

Dillinger Escape Plan, Sikth (as was said), Ion Dissonance, Into the Moat, Maudlin of the Well.

Disregard that Psyopus recommendation.

**** off some people like it and some people don't but don't be a foreskin and keep this young gentleman from hearing a band that he could potentially love

e: Maudlin of the Well? I dunno if that's exactly what he's looking for but okay

syco722
03-09-2009, 08:56 PM
Well I love Pig Destroyer so you definitely know my taste, haha. Wasn't too huge on Gridlink...they have Destroyer Destroyer type vocals, which Im not a fan of, sorry man!
Psyopus on the other hand are obviously talented, but I don't even know what to think of it, haha. It's all over the place and just pure insanity! I THINK I like it, I'll have to listen to it a bit more for proper judgement though, thanks for the recommendations dude!

Idk, they're metal, heavy, technical, and have clean parts. Quite similar to BTBAM while still being very different.

Never been huge on DEP, but I've always liked them at least a little, as I said before, sikth is awesome, I loveee Ion Dissonance, I haven't listened to Into the Moat in a while, and I don't actually remember if I like them or not, so I need to go back and re-listen a bit! Never heard Maudlin of the well, but I'll definitely check into them man!

Yeah Psyopus takes a few listens to figure out what's going on I would recommend their first 2 albums (Ideas of Reference or Our Puzzling Encounters Considered) as their new album (probably most of their myspace stuff) Odd Senses sucks donkey dick.

edit: And I was confused by MotW just because they can barely be called a metal band from what I've heard they're only about 25% heavy parts

If you're going to check out any one song by MotW, make it "They Aren't All Beautiful"

To honeydutchautopsy: I've only really gotten into Bath which, while it has a lot of softer, "clean" parts, there is still quite a bit of heavy thrown in.

DUDE, MAUDLIN OF THE WELL WAS AWESOME, hahah Thank you dude, they were great!

Love Architects, becoming the archetype, glass casket, and sikth.

You liked MotW? They're not really at all like BTBAM/PTH. Great stuff though. Genghis isn't either though, it's just like electronic death metal, or something.

syco722
03-09-2009, 09:15 PM
Well I'm basically a Metal-head, but there's quite a few bands (Now including MotW) that I freakin love, that aren't so heavy. Thanks for the rec man! :D

I wouldn't go as far to say their completely different, they have a similar feel to them.

Sikth is okay, but they don't stand out as much as BTBAM or PTH.

Mathcore:

The Fall of Troy (F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X)
SiKth (Bland Street Bloom)

BTBAM prog death side:

The Faceless (Pretty much any song off of Akeldama)
Necrophagist (Anything off of Epitaph)
Cynic (How Could I is epic)
Arsis (The Face of My Innocence)

There's a lot of prog death bands that play really techy.
