Goat detained over armed robbery

LAGOS (Reuters) - Police in Nigeria are holding a goat on suspicion of attempted armed robbery.

Vigilantes took the black and white beast to the police saying it was an armed robber who had used black magic to transform himself into a goat to escape arrest after trying to steal a Mazda 323.

"The group of vigilante men came to report that while they were on patrol they saw some hoodlums attempting to rob a car. They pursued them. However one of them escaped while the other turned into a goat," Kwara state police spokesman Tunde Mohammed told Reuters by telephone.

"We cannot confirm the story, but the goat is in our custody. We cannot base our information on something mystical. It is something that has to be proved scientifically, that a human being turned into a goat," he said.

Belief in witchcraft is widespread in parts of Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation. Residents came to the police station to see the goat, photographed in one national newspaper on its knees next to a pile of straw.

Yeah that's a pretty lame robber

If he had a good witch doctor he'd have turned into an elephant and wrecked the **** out of the cops trying to chase him.

We've spent the last 15 minutes or so creating elaborate scenarios for all the things he (or she?) could have turned into to escape law enforcement, or kill everyone present. Either one would work right?

I just thought this was the funniest thing I've read in a while.

I love it when they change into goats. It's like getting asked to get caught.

This is actually nothing new. In Nigeria they hear of multiple cases of humans being turned into goats by way of juju (witchcraft). Some of my relatives still refuse to believe it though, despite the live news reports

so now its cool to walk into a police station in nigeria with a goat and say you caught him stealing whilst you mate gets away with the loot. i wonder how it would go down if you walked in with a pig

i had a cousin die in nigeria in the 90s. he had been senior management in xerox europe and then took on setting up their african operation with a reward of a return to vp level in europe after 3 years

within 3 months of the 3 years being up his wife got a call to say he had died in a hospital in the capital. this was at the same time that the students were doing all the rioting and the warlords were wrecking pipelines and stuff. they said he died of malaria so in order to be shipped home he had to be sealed in lead casket that could not be opened

always felt there my have been more to it. if he had been a victim of local rioting and stuff then that would have set back inward investment back by years, something i am sure the nigerian authorities would have not wanted

yeah man turned himself into a goat. Nothing to see here.

I don't expect anyone just now reading this to believe it. This is the first time I've seen an occurrence reported in a western media.

Mr. Ron
01-28-2009, 01:48 AM
so, you actually believe that or?

TheDarkHorse
01-28-2009, 01:49 AM

Mr. Ron

On the other hand: I want to live
