It's nice, to be sure, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that the price on these is going to be $2k+.

Wish they included weight in their specs pages.

Given the amount of wenge on that instrument, I'd imagine it's pretty heavy.

Yeah I'm sure it is. I just think it's stupid that they're so thorough and then forget something as simple as it's weight. It's irked me for a while.

I don't care much for Ibanez, but the wood choices make this one very visually appealing. It's got to be a heavy instrument (like mentioned earlier because of wenge).

2700$ on an Ibanez?

No thanks.

Looks nice, but I don't know that it warrants the price tag. I wish they wouldn't use Barts. I really can't stand them. I think a blue stain as opposed to the orange might look pretty nice too.

If I'm gonno spend $2k+ on another bass, I'll just go for a Spector.

So.... 3 square feet of wenge costs $2k now?

Last I saw, you could get a board of it big enough for all that for 60$...

burtonbassist_101
01-22-2009, 06:28 PM
but you guys have to remember that the $2700 is just retail. it's not like once it's available that it's actually going to be sold for that much.

nothing is sold for retail anymore.

A nice bass, wish I had the money. You did pose a good point though it's unlikely you would buy it for actual retail.

I see Ibanez is reacting to the credit crunch now by making basses outta coffee tables...

I really don't like that look at all. To each their own.

That Ibanez has made for the last 20 years, just with a different wood. Come one, how hard is it to write a new CNC program?

i believe designing an eye-pleasing body, and also one that is appealing to a large group of people, is far more complicated than that.

what im trying is, what else do you expect from a mass produced item? and a great selling one at that..

HEY GUYS, THE SR LINE OF OUR BASSES HAS SOLD X AMOUNT OF UNITS AND HAS DELIVERED US X AMOUNT OF DOLLARS IN THE PAST 10-20 YEARS. I MOTION THAT WE DISCONTINUE THE LINE SO LOWSOUND CAN HAVE A UNIQUE AND FRESH BASS.

honestly man, as long as they sell, they will make it. fender is still pumping out the same models each and every year. ernie ball is still selling the musicman. etc. etc

People who want a fender want the same old formula. They'd be foolish to spend the money to put out radically different models.

Seriously, only one new bass intro'd at NAMM?

yeah i really liked that bass. if the retail is really that high, i guess the sale price is somewhere around the 2k mark?

That is pretty hawt.

Makes me want one of the generic ibanez six strings now.

Still would be a good bass to own if it was like in the 6-800 range... Any guesses on the initial weight?

Except ibanez basses aren't eye pleasing, at all. That SR shape is hideous. I'll bet that this bass plays like butter though. For ibanez to charge that much it's gotta be nice. Has anyone here every played any of ibanez's high end hollowbody guitars, like either of the George Bensons, the John Scofield, or the Pat Metheny one? I've played a few of the bensons (both the archtop and the smaller LPish one), and I was blow away by the feel and construction quality. I'd expect the same from a high end ibanez bass.

Ibanez does have a reputation for consistant quality among their gear, which is nice.

I'm also not a fan of that body shape, but if I'm spending $1800+ on an instrument, I'd probably go custom anyways, so that's just me.

Gotta love the Ibanez necks though. Ibanez Necks = Secks.

Ibanez necks are fantastic. And I like the SR shape... I do own one, after all.

Even the neck on my guitar is just awesome, and it only cost me $400. What a great buy that was.

Ibanez makes great instruments.

To a degree. I will whole-heartedly agree that they make a comfortable, affordable, versatile instrument and usually can't be beaten for the price....

EDIT: ...Unless it's a $2000+ piece of wenge.

I don't care about brand loyalty or anything, I just happened to end up with an Ibanez guitar and bass because they feel and sound great. Quite affordable, too. Usually.

I'm the same. I don't have two of any branded instrument (closest I have is my Ibanez Acoustic and early 90's Ibanez Roadstar II). I could almost go so far as to say that I refuse to have two of the same brand because every brand is so different and I want to utilize each bass for its own unique quality.

Ok. I don't refuse, I just don't usually find a brand that puts out multiple basses that spark my attention. I'm not the guy that owns an Ibanez EDA, EDC, BTB, Soundgear, and the Gary Willis sig because I love Ibanez.

Ibanez is nice, but I hate those thin necks. I prefer P bass necks.
