I just got approved for a credit card, and will be ordering a new head the day it get here.
I think I've decided which head I want to get, and have scoured the internet fairly thoroughly for good deals. I'm just making this thread to see if any of you guys would recommend against this head for any reason, or suggest another one within the price range.

I'm currently getting 375 watts out of the head I've got right now, and it just isn't cutting it. so if you have another suggestion, make sure that it's something that's going to be LOUD.
Thanks y'all.

So after asking around, I think I've changed my mind. My new best option is this:

1250watts at 4ohm for 650. Can any other head beat that?

What cabinet are you using? Watts≠Volume, maybe a more sensitive cab is a better buy.

I've used a number of cabs, and i really need a new head is what it comes down to.

The little Markbass heads sound pretty good. Eden has a nice little amp in that range too.

And I've never played on this, but everything else Genz Benz has put out that I've gotten my hands on has sounded great.

Eh, all of those were more than the one I mentioned, I doubt would be much louder than what I've got now.

i don't know about the eden, but the mark bass would most definitely be loud enough if you paired it up with the right cabs

I'm still not convinced enough to spend an extra hundred dollars for less watts haha!

less watts doesn't mean less tone.
the only thing I like more than a markbass is an Ampeg.
also, you won't be able to overdrive your amp with so much headroom.
I'd rather have a less powerful amp and be able to crank it hard and get that sweet tone.
also, when did you change your name luke?

OK, just go ahead and buy the most watts for your money. Best of luck.

Don't know if you've considered this at all, but if you're just looking for pure power, you might look into power amps. You could get a small, cheap, used pre and focus the majority of your $$$ into the power.

I'm not too concerned about overdriving my amp ... i've got 2 distortion/overdrive pedals that work to my taste.
i changed my name a couple months ago now, i think it was.
UPDATE: Bought a Yorkville XC410 cabinet. So now my cab setup is that and my avatar 2x12.

Part of your issue might be your EQ. If you are boosting your low end, it will suck up more of your power and wont be as appreciable by the ear. Midrange is mainly what we hear. Also, the accoustics of your room could be an issue as well. It's hard for me to understand why you are are struggling for volume with a full stack.
With all that said- maybe ebay a Genz Benz GBE 600 if one pops up.

I have messed with my EQ, and I can get it to be a little bit louder if I cut the lows, but I'd still like it to be louder, and ideally I'd like to boost the lows and low mids. So if I got a 1250watt head, I think i'd be able to get a good low EQ sound without sucking too much power.
As far as acoustics go, I've played my stack in rooms as small as a bedroom (practice space) or as big as a medium-sized venue, and my volume falls short in most cases.

You should have the rest of the band turn down. Seriously. You'll end up playing better together that way.

Nah, we always try that, but then everything gets lost behind the drums. Our drummer's got a real loud kit, and plays it as such. We sound better when we play loud ... I just need to fit in!
