So i have decided that i want something a bit different and am selling off 7 of my stompboxes.. I never used to care for multi effects pedals but for some reason they seem to be building them better and better, i listed all my pedals on fleabay tonight in hopes that i will raise enough money towards my new multi effects unit... Can someone please give me some opinions on some of the units out there? I already have a great tone so i am not really after all the cab and amp simulators but i think they would be great for jamming alone with headphones. I do still play a bit of guitar so i was thinking about the line6 x3... Or what about the Boss GT10B, Or ZOOM B9.1Ut. The new zoom looks great and Stu was showing it off on a video on youtube. I don't want to go over 550 bucks.
When i first started throwing my pedal board together i was in a cover band that played alot of TOOL and used alot of effects on our original, i guess in my new band i don't use my effects that often anymore, i dig my tone so much right now, the thing i use the most is my flanger.
I am really starting to like the sounds i have heard out of that ZOOM.

meh i'm not a big fan of effects. i don't think many bassists are.
i have a pedal that gets less use than the tone knob on a mark hoppus sig bass.

yeah usually multi-effect pedals for bass aren't all that worth it... Unless you actually need them depending on what pedals you have now you may already have everything you could get decent in a multi effects... (in my opinion) so how's about a link to the ebay?

I'm not quite sure exactly hope I didn't get you in trouble with it... sry mods... hate to say it but you basically have a multi-effects peddle right there... like a generic one i'm not to much on the larger everything ones i guess...

to be fair, i wouldnt sell single units for a multi fx. there usually pretty poor compared to single stomp boxes.
it depends what you want. as a rule, i only use guitar effects for bass, delay, distortion and a boss loop. however i bas cry baby, its a pile of crap. oh yeh, ive got a CEB-3 i think its called, chorus pedal, can get a duff esque tone, but nothing special.
to be fair, i think delay and distortion are the only ones that can be used effectively and not sound ****, however i havent tried them all, obviously.

basically i agree with what shuffle said.
to a degree.
if you have to destroy your bass's tone with a bunch of wibbly wobbly effects at least do it with things that are specifically designed to make that specific wibbly wobbly. its like sticklebricks. if you want to build a house out of sticklebricks you use many sticklebricks to achieve the end result, your house. you dont buy just one suped up overly engineered retarded looking sticklebrick, throw paste at it and call it your house.

I understand where you're coming from but I don't get the comparison (and again there's a language barrier) but sometimes the song just calls for it or maybe it was a mistake but it sounds better than expected...

I'd honestly continue to work with single effects if you want good overdrive or distortion.
The only thing I really use my POD for is the chorus, phaser and reverb.
go to a guitar store and play with one before you buy.

Well they are listed on ebay now so i can't really take them off.. a fellow guitar player said to try a G-major and get a midi foot controller for it? I don't really know though, but the x3 would be fun for song righting and plugging in my guitar from time to time. Look up the b9.1ut ZOOM on youtube, stu hamm is using it.

Multi-effects usually have pretty useable chorus/phase/reverb/delay etc but are usually pretty woeful for distortion sounds.

So, I totally read this thread and I'm still trying to figure out what the **** a sticklebrick is? Sexual technique? High tech building material? Stick? Brick? Sticky brick? A delightful peanut butter candy treat?...Can't get offa that.
Anyways, you should have posted those for sale on here first, I might have bought 3 or 4 of them.
Okay, back to the whole multieffects pedal thing... I've never played one that tracks well enough for me to not notice it, or one that has realistic effects for that matter. Hell, even the modulation effects that mostly sound better digital than analogue to my ears don't sound too good... I'd rather have a few dedicated effects that do their jobs well than one box that will do everything just okay.

Sticklebricks = rubbish Lego? (i.e. there's no pirate ship/millenium falcon/death star/castle/generic sci-fi)
As for the pedalboard... I've thought about doing that myself, but I reasoned that I wouldn't use it enough to justify the expense. Realistically most people only use one or two effects, if at all, so you may be best off taking a look at what you use and buy really high-quality versions of those rather than a big-bag-o-budget effects for the same price.

I haven't played with those in at least 13 years.
Anyone here ever seen a pod x3 live? Are they sturdy? I heard they are plastic and others have said they are metal.. what gives?
psbassplayer

while as not high tech as legos, sticklebricks are far from rubbish. they offer more building possibilities by letting you connect them at almost infinite surface areas.
anyways the pod x3. i found this in a review: "The structural plastic feels very delicate."
i've never played one or seen one live, but from reading a few reviews the general consensus is that its around a 6-7 out of 10 overall and that there are better things out there. although when it comes to sound devices it is really up to the person who wants the device to begin with so i'd say try something before buying anything.

I called guitar center and the guy on the phone told me they are made from metal. I don't know what to believe..

01-18-2009, 11:55 AM
you could always go to guitar center...
but that would require leaving your comfortable chair in front of the comfortable internetz and phone where you don't need to have any actual human interaction. jk.

Well guitar center is quite a ways away and the roads are horrible here from all the snow we got in the past few days.

The only thing I'm getting that's metal is the pedal, foot switches and handles... It does seem pretty plastic...

I am just gonna order it from American Musical.. and if i don't like i have 45 days to return it. And if i dont like it i will get the Zoom b9.1ut, it has a tube in it for the driven tones... might be alot better pedal anyway... Stu ham now uses one for crying out loud.

I am not saying i wanted it because he was playing it, but simply because he is a professional, and the unit is probably very solid. I did get my x3 live and let me tell you, the line6 toneport doesn't have many tones for bass. And also so far I don't really care for the unit, the bass modeling is great but i already had a really good tone. I think the effects are horrible, but hopefully i will keep messing with it, and if i don't like it i am gonna send it back to AMS and get the GT-10b or Zoom B9.1UT... So i could still use some input from you fellow bassers.
