So we’re officially announcing the release date for our new record “Supporting Caste”. It’s March 10th, 2009. We’re so excited about it that we even made a professional (-esque) press release for it! Look:

PROPAGANDHI – SUPPORTING CASTE

RELEASE DATE: MARCH 10TH 2009

Propagandhi are proud pleased delighted required to announce the release of their new album, Supporting Caste.

Recorded at the band’s own Illegal Combatant Studios and the world-renowned Blasting Room in Ft. Collins Colorado, Supporting Caste is the fifth full length release from Winnipeg’s Propagandhi.

Crafted in collaboration with Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents, Zeke, 7 Seconds), this 12 song collection of boundless power and depth is a 50 000 watt forward-thinking tip-of-the-hat to the giants — Voivod, Rush, SNFU, Sacrifice, Razor, Guilt Parade – that have gone before them.

Legendary and unrepentant residents of humankind’s ideological peanut-gallery, Propagandhi does not disappoint with Supporting Caste, launching crude rockets into the heart of the prevailing order with meditations that range in focus from the humane slaughter and consumption of non-vegans in an elaborate 18-course banquet (with wine pairings) to the apparent confusion of turning on the TV to watch a simple hockey game and having to wonder whether or not the Nazi’s actually lost the war after all.

Supporting Caste: 12 new laments, reveries and extrapolations from 4 visibly-aging prairie skids who still cannot believe that of all the gin joints in all the galaxies in all the universes, they had to be born on this one.

Supporting Caste will be released on March 10th, 2009 on G7 Welcoming Committee/Smallman Records.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if it'll be like their latest album or like their older stuff.

To my ears the new record seems like it will resemble a nuclear-powered space-age composite of Potemkin City Limits, Less Talk More Rock, Giant Son’s “Anthology” and a carefully measured dose of Today’s Empires Tomorrow’s Ashes!

Apologies to fans of How to Clean Everything. There is nothing for you this year. Making it 16 years in a row now that you’ve stamped your feet and sniveled and whined and pooped your pants in disappointment. Which is unendingly funny to us. Oh, and by “pants”, i mean those giant nofx shorts from 1992. haha

totally agree. todays empires is definitely my favorite, but potemkin city limits was that album that made me say "woah." a huge transition, but it worked out very well. as far as i'm concerned, these guys could come out with a show tunes album and i'd still find reason to love it.

“I swear I did my best to ensure that his final moments were swift and free from fear. But consideration should be made for the fact that Sandor Katz was my first kill, so I trust the reader will understand that while his screams may well have seemed like conscious objections they were in reality simply a request to honour his strength and speed! With gratitude and tenderness I singed every single hair from his body, gently placed his decapitated head in a stock pot, boiled off his flesh and made a spread-able head cheese! Because I believe that one can only relate with another living creature by completely destroying it! I’m sure Sandor’s friends and family will appreciate this!”
(ahem)
A rationale so moronic it defies belief. Post-vegetarian I must submit to you–respectfully–be careful what kind of world you wish for. Someday it may come knocking on your door.
“Lemme in! LEMME THE **** IN! I just wanna ‘fully relate.’ I swear I’ll do my best to ensure that your final moments are swift and free from fear!”

“On this matter I'm inclined to agree with the French, who gaze upon any personal
dietary prohibition as bad manners.”

Wow. After hearing both of these, I am ridiculously excited for the new album. I was doubtful when they said it had some LTMR sound in the mix, but Humane(e) Meat actually has a sort of pop-punk feel to it. Awesome.

That being said, I'm going to make an effort to not listen to these too much before the album comes out. I listened to Name and Address Withheld and Die Jugend Masrchiert so much before Potemkin City Limits came out that when I finally had the album they sort of felt out of place. Learn from mistakes I suppose.

They listed the album as being 52 minutes, but that's including all of the last track. If you don't include anything after Last Will and Testament, it's pretty much the same length as Potemkin. If you include the hidden track, it's still only about 45. I find it goes by quicker than Potemkin though.

Granted, there are still enough elements of their emo past that they won't be confused with Kamelot anytime soon

But there's no denying that the members of Propagandhi are quite adept at their instruments compared to other emo bands

Supporting Caste shows that Propagandhi are not afraid to expand their sound a bit, but the real question is, how far can they go without befuddling their early fans?

I lol'd

I Want You 2 Want Me and the bonus tracks crap is tiring, but if you nvm those tracks - the album is amazing. Showdown, Satire, Anti-Manifesto, Stick the Flag... I mean there are nothing but winners on it. the lyrics are iconic and the riffs are catchy. awesome album. easily my favourite.

It's hard to put my finger on it, to be honest.
It's just, his voice doesn't always seem to harmonize with the music, he seems to enunciate TOO much, and it sounds like he's way too close to his mic.
Like listen to the first 7 seconds of Back To The Motor League.
Maybe it's just the post-production...

But on the other hand, he sounds great on other tracks, like Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes.
It's tricky.

Like I said, it's really hard to put my finger on, but they're unusual sounding at times.

Um he's shouting - not singing - and listen to the lyrics, they're completely tongue-in-cheek which is why he sounds like a meathead jackass on that intro.

I think Hannah is one of the best and most distinctive vocalists in punk rock by far, and this album rules.
