Any suggestions?
Not too clicky, but not a thud.

Do you need a mic? What are you asking?

Boost 60-ishHz, cut 250-500Hz, boost 4-5kHz.

Tape a credit card to the batter head, where the beater makes contact... might give you some more attack. Tune your drums properly for the sound you desire.

Ah I'm sorry. I should have been more specific.
I should have said sample.
I need a kick sample for my drum program.
Sorry for the incompetence.

Google "Free .Wav Drum File Samples". There's a ton; choose how big a sample library you want.

Nothing wrong with that technique: there are loads of legally available free .wav samples out there. In fact, using the term above (minus quotes) gives the first 10 links as sites that provide public domain/license-free samples.

Exactly why I said use google and not just "go download some."

Have you tried using two kick samples from your program, that's what I usually do to get the kick I'm looking for...

I tried that, but found I liked the sound of Beatcraft's "metal kick" eq setting on mt kick sample.

you can never go wrong with the drumkit from hell drum sample library. i use it to demo all my ideas, and it sounds dirty with little tweaking needed.
