Well I am attending a small 2 year school right now. And I want to apply to Baylor University this Fall but I am not sure if I will make it.

I will have an estimated GPA of 3.0-3.1+. My GED scores put me in the top 3% nationally. My PSAT were 97th percentile math, 82nd writing, and I am taking the SAT later this month with a projected score of 1190 min to 1450 max MV. Also I took the SAT in the 7th grade during the Duke TIP (talent search), and out of those students nationally in the 99th percentile on the Iowa Test, I was ranked approximately in the top 10% of the top 1% of all 7th graders in math. My verbal score is not worth speaking of.

Practically no extracurriculars to speak of in high school which doesn't count for a whole lot anyway.

So now anyone familiar with this having gone to college or otherwise knowledgeable on the subject, is this sufficient for admission, and what could be done to improve my application, that is, does it need improvement?

High school is pretty irrelevant once you are in college, as far as transferring goes. I'm not sure how competitive a school Baylor is, but I've seen people essentially fail out of my school only to transfer to Ohio State, which is a very selective school if you try to go from high school.

A 3.0 in college and the ability to afford it will get you into pretty much any other college, excluding Ivy Leagues and school like Duke and all that.

What are Baylor's general statistics they show for transfer students? I'd say that's more important.

SAT Verbal
25th percentile = 540
75th percentile = 650

SAT Math
25th percentile = 560
75th percentile = 650

I can meet verbal averages easy, math I can score better by a good margin.

They currently and to my knowledge have never released average GPAs.

**** yes! That's what I've heard too apparently they make everyone think it's like some badass school because it's like 30k a year but it's really not all that great.

Man the American education system seems pretty complicated XD

I'm going through the same thing man, Uni apps 'n' all that. Got pure rejected from Oxford, but oh well, they're competitive to the extreme- going to go to Durham instead like the stereotypical Oxford reject :)

All I can say is (bearing in mind I don't know how the app process works over there...) just fill out your application with as many bells and whistles as possible, and if you want to apply there, then apply, your scores look good enough, so why not?

Test scores<extra curriculars tbh

Colleges have their general threshold and once you meet that they look at the rest of the package because who the hell wants people who only do SATs at their school?

They wont have a choice. If they ever want to be with anyone, talk about being in one school for 4 years, and expecting to be married with kids by the time you finish grad school. The way I see it 18% of those lassies are just going to have to stay single but there is a perfect representation, for every one man there is definitely a woman, even a surplus. So I have my pick now.

Look I am from Texas. Call it what you want, backwards whatever. Most women I know don't really want to work. Maybe later in life but most value family and children and marriage more than any college degree. I don't know one woman who would give up marriage and a family for a good job. Women down here want to raise children. They want a husband who provides for them the essentials and bare necessities. It may be different up north or in Europe or somewhere but that's how it is in Texas.

So far:

Northern Kentucky University - Accepted, scholarship letters sent in February.
Thomas Cooley (Grand Rapids, Michigan) (lol) - Accepted, 75% scholarship
LSU - Accepted, $14,000 and change scholarship
Western New England College of Law (Springfield, Massachusetts) - Accepted, $24,000 Scholarship
Hofstra - Accepted, $35,000 scholarship (First choice unless I get into UGA)

Still waiting to hear back from:

University of Tennessee
Georgia State University
University of Georgia

So far, my three I'm considering are UGA, GSU, and Hofstra. GSU is ranked near Hofstra, but I won't likely get money at GSU.

I won't get money if I'm accepted to UGA, but it's a good enough school I'm not going to worry about it. Plus my family owns the place where I live here in Athens, so I won't be paying extra money for living expenses.

Hofstra is probably where I am going if I don't get into UGA since I'll only be paying about $4,025 in tuition each year. I'll be paying living expenses, but I have an uncle who lives in the city who is an assistant attorney general, meaning I may be able to get in on clerkships. In addition, they have the highest median starting salaries by far for all schools but Georgia, and they are still higher than Georgia by some (but with cost of living I think they're equivalent) AND the northeast is where I'd like to end up practicing. Problem is, if I get below a 3.25 GPA, I am suddenly paying $35,000 a year in tuition.

Current undergrad GPA is 3.40 (raised it .03 last semester, and since this is an easy semester, it should go up again) at UGA, which is just below graduating with honors. Considering how much time I waste here, it's even better.

Plus, I'm an officer in an honors fraternity, active with the adademic team, in a pre-law fraternity, and an Eagle Scout.

I'll make my final decision once I hear from everyone, but Hofstra and UGA are the two frontrunners now.

TO PASTORIUS: Actually, law schools weigh LSAT and GPA fairly heavily in their acceptance. I know it isn't everything and not related to jobs, but it can be important.

If you were as smart as you say you are, then you could have gotten a scholarship and gone to a University, Underground Man.

Yeah no ****. No one told me I qualified for something like 12,000-15,000 a year at Baylor based off of my test scores.

while we're bragging about results i got 96.4 in my UAI whih is like youre scores im guessing only its scaled on what subjects we do and such, which put me in the top 5% of everyone in the state and i missed every scholarship i went for

so you thinking your marks in one area are going to walk you into a top university is a pretty silly idea

I got into university based on work I did with one of the professors, as I completely failed the admissions exam (well, 49 isn't a complete fail, but I wouldn't be able to get into ANU on that score, and I wasn't going to UC).

If you have some evidence of passed-work you've done (if it's in a related field obviously), try taking that to them and see if they can do anything with it.

Baylor is hardly a top university.

In fact a high SAT score combined with extracurriculars and a high GPA will qualify one for up to $30,000 a year although funds are limited.
