Who here thinks video games should be a sport? Don't just give an opinion give an actual reason or argument why.

Absolutely not. What's the definition of 'sport', though? Plenty of games have professional leagues that play against each other for money, which I guess can be considered sport.
And we all know Starcraft is a sport in Korea.

do you consider chess a sport? if so then you have to include video games.

You guys have given my a little bit of faith in humanity. I have a buddy who will argue to the end it should be. Halo 3 is getting Air time on ESPN and there is a major league gaming deal. Evidently there are guys making like ungodly amount of money playing video games. Any way that is beside the point. If you look of the definition of sport on www.dictionary.com, and then look up the word athletic, you will see that it is absurd to call them a sport. I had to rant a little. Looks like we are all on the same page.
As far as chess goes. I could see an a possible argument for it being a sport but you don't have to include video games if you add that. The whole point of a sport is to establish dominance over other people, wether it be a single man or a team. Look at how the Olympics started. Chess even though not physical is a game of intense strategy. You are physically doing something. All video games do is give you the illusion you are doing something.

I didn't say I would consider chess a sport, I said I could see how you would possibly for an argument for it.

I consider chess and video games to be both games, although they can be very competitive and take a lot of skill.

Come now, you are being unreasonable. Plus, I can think of much dodgier occupations (or non-occupations).

I love video games. I play them often and they provide me a great deal of entertainment. I am elated about the evolution of gaming and where it's come from way back when in 1978 when I dropped my first quarter into a Asteroids arcade game. Its like a dream come true.
I would consider gaming in any capacity professional or not, a recreational activity at best, and it is not a sport. There is nothing athletic about playing video games. It requires skills and talents one could create or maybe those with better hand eye coordination have a skill or talent better then the guy next to him but I would never consider a gamer an athlete of any kind ever. The nature of athletics by definition doesn't consider what a gamer has to be good at to be good at games athletic at all. It's all a matter of practice and how quick your fingers work to produce whatever the outcome is not athletic in the least.
It's a shame there even are "pro" gamers at all, but I think it's awesome all the same.

Chess is not now nor has it ever been a sport. So, chess video games are still not a sport nor are the best chess players in the world considered atheletes.

It's competitive, yes.
But a sport calls for the individual to physically exert their body's potential. The smashing and execution of well-timed button combinations is not as exertive as baseball, basketball, or anything with a ball. The exlusion being mini-golf, since the whole course is 1/25th the size.

I don't see how competitiveness can be denied. Athleticism, yeah, non-existant, but competition?
