Left for Dead if you like first person shooters.

Fallout 3 if you want a post apocolyptic role playing game.

Spore if you want a good God sim.

The new World of Warcraft expansion if you want to lose your social life.

I'm strongly considering Left 4 dead.

My buddy may let me have his copy of Fallout, so thats off the table.

I have spore already, very good game.

I don't want to get back into WoW :[

I would say Left 4 Dead.

Or, it's an older game but STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl is a great game if you haven't already played it.

Fallout 1 and 2, Worms Armageddon. If you want a seriously high-tech action/strategy game get System Shock 1.

How about some games from this decade, bro?

Left 4 Dead looks so awesome.

n....ew.....games..?

I'm pretty sure there's an updated version of "push the hoolahoop down the dirt road with a stick". I'm pretty sure the system reqs are flexible too.

Already have STALKER. One of my all time favorite games.

Then you have to go through the pitfalls of setting up and running system shock....which i believe is now 14 years old. If you do, your mind will be boggled by how many details and how much inventiveness they crammed into a sprite based shooter game. Which was probably the first fps to consider RPG elements for at least 5-10 years after it's creation.

save it and wait for starcraft 2

Mr. Ron
12-31-2008, 05:18 PM
thats what I was thinking. I just have to check if best buy will screw me out of it if they have some sort of "window" to where you have to spend it.

Luc214
12-31-2008, 05:31 PM
hmm gta 4?

technically it's a port and yes there are problems with performance and some bugs but if the PC is your only system then I'd say get it.

or if you have a decent setup with an nvidia card I'd say wait for Cryostasis.

The reason I say nvidia is you kind of have to have a fairly recent one with PhysX enabled to render the game playable at a decent frame rate.

ok sweet. I may save it for starcraft then unless i find something else. I'm tempted to by Crysis, but I've heard mixed reviews.

well honestly it depends on your system. If you have at LEAST a decent dual core (by decent I mean around E8400), 2+ gigs of ram and at least an 8800GTS 512 (preferably overclocked) definitely check out Crysis, it will be playable if you're willing to sacrifice resolution.

I honestly do not suggest anything lower than that though.

Crysis really is a fun game though, it really is just a simple shooter but the mechanics are all there and work smooth as butter. Really the only reason it's gotten so much hype is because of the visuals.

Mr. Ron
12-31-2008, 10:22 PM
I have all of those requirements, but 4 gigs of RAM so I'm good. I may just borrow it first before buying it.

Left 4 Dead if you're intent on spending money

Or, Mount & Blade is a really sweet game and you could pick it up for cheaper. It's like a cross of Medieval Total War with an RPG. Set in a sweet semi-fantasy world (i.e. imaginary locations but more or less realistic, no magic or elves). Awesome combat system.

I assume you already have, and are into, Dwarf Fortress. Otherwise needless to say, you need that.

Happy 2009 everybody. I'm happy to be alive, I thought some guy on the bus on the way home was going to kill me and my friend for talking too loud (we weren't)

since we are talking games here what is Metal Gear Solid 4 all about and why do i need it?

i saw some GOTY awards for it and people seem really taken by it like its some sort of holy grail of vid games. but from i have seeing it doesn't look like all that. is this a worthwhile game or is it simply hype based on some fanboyism?

some make it sound downright operatic

I dunno, but I do know that if you do play it, be prepared to make time for lengthy cinematics.

That's the only reason I haven't started playing it. When I'm working, I wake up about an hour before work. When I get off work during the night I just want a fast paced, fast quitting game to play.

bradc1988
01-01-2009, 07:05 AM
Only play it if you have played the other 3.

The cinematics are more than tolerable if you're a fan.

MGS4 was good and tied up most of the loose ends in the story but I came away from it feeling like I'd just played Gears Of War instead of an MGS game. It didn't feel like an MGS game to me.

Its one of those games where to fully enjoy it is to be a pretty big fan of the series right off the bat. To appreciate, or even understand the full story, you'd have to had played all the MGS titles before you play MGS4. Someone unfamiliar with the game who plays it will be confused.

But, if you are familiar with the story and characters, its a blast.

I dunno, there really isn't much content to Left 4 Dead. So I'd rather they just make more maps for it, or at least unlock the other 2 campaigns for Vs. Dead Air would be freakin' awesome on Vs.

I can't believe I forgot this game, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines!

it's an older game but very good, very underrated.

If you have a vista 64 machine with 4 gigs of RAM and a widescreen display just be sure to download the resolution patcher and the latest unofficial patch, the game has a problem with using more than 2 gigs of RAM and will use horrible, blurry textures unless you download the latest unofficial patch, which fixes that issue.

And the resolution patcher just fixes the game's resolution options to include widescreen/higher resolutions

CoD4 or CoD5 imo. For a great single player and multiplayer. Left4Dead is like a poopty Source Mode(It is actually). How can you guys like that game? It's so repetitive. Playing co-op is fun but it's still the same **** over and over again. Enlighten me.

My PC is fairly sh*ty so I play mostly old games like Dungeon Siege 2, Fallout 1 + 2, and old games like escape from monkey island :D. My internet connection is too slow to play games online right now so I'm really not caught up on current games. I actually think Dungeon Siege 2 is the most recent game I've bought :o except for Guild Wars that is.

Its actually surprisingly difficult in some areas, even on novice.

You can't just mount grenade launchers or scopes anymore, you have to go to upgrade guys and buy the ability to mount them. You can also repair them and make modifications to them such as increased accuracy and magazine capacity. I like those additions, seeing as how you don't have to ditch a weapon you like just because its condition is bad, you can just repair it.
