whoa, mind f'uck
pretty much validated my thoughts from my philosophy-based musings.

Dont take it too seriously, most of this is speculation based on spiritualist interpritations of certain underdetermined metaphysical models of modern physics. Some of its just complete nonesense. "the ultimate level of reality is fundamentaly empty" "life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves", what a load of crap.

You put it nicely.
While watching it, I started to get furious that people follow this. It's ridiculous. It's speculation, yes. It's spiritual, yes. And most of it, not just some of it, is complete nonsense.
Notice all the LSD users responding to the video.....

I heard "Somehow out of this nothing..." and decided that it was going to be a stupid video.
I probably should've realised that from the title alone.

The moment the music kicked in with the title flaring above it was where I had the same moment of realization.

well. i have absolutely no clue about quantum physics and such, but is it true that once you get down to the quantum level time loses meaning/validity, whatever that is supposed to mean?
when the video talked about physics it seemed pretty interesting, but all the wierd interviews and strange rhetoric that was probably only understood by the speaker seemed silly and sounded like people i know when theyre on shrooms.

Exactly the same here. I used to have this friend who always tried to act philosophical. He used to say things like "the color red isn't really the color red - it's just a combination of a whole bunch of molecules and energy and we call it red". My answer was always the same - it depends how you define red. People like this piss me the **** off - "nothing is really real" - complete morons.

Right, and the 'spooky' music didn't help me take it seriously either.

Well the color red is just the way that our brains register a certain range of light waves that reflect off objects so idk what you think of that (it's scientific fact)

no dude it depends on how you define it

What the actual "colour red" is, is actualy still highley contentious among philosophers and scientists. Everyone knows what causes colour sensations etc but weather its the coulour red is actualy something mind dependent, the actual wave lengths, a dispositional property of objects which reflect light at those wave lengths etc is widley debated. We do argue about silly things in philosophy.

It's more of taking the general population's association with the color red and the meaning of the word red. If someone else defines, in the verbal spectrum that the definition of red means the physical wavelength of blue, then by pure cementation of the individual's verbal definition of red is not the physical wavelength of red.
Which is completely retarded and the philosofag's central mechanism of 'making a point by being different'
The definition of the color red is exactly what I said it is
As for OUR PERCEPTION of the color red, nobody really understands how sentient perception works, so idk but people can philosophag about it all they want

Well the experience of qualia will probably always give a reductionist account of phenomenon a hard time.

No, time still has meaning at quantum levels. Think of the Higgs boson, it's so hard to observe because it exists for very short amounts of time, because it's so massive.

I didn't think it was planning to collide lead ions? I don't know much about their plans for a physics student though. I know enough to impress the stupid people though :D

I know enough to impress the stupid people though :DWell, they had wanted to until a large helium leak happened and they had to bring some sections out of 4 kelvins to room temperature to replace and repair it.

I knew about the leak yeah, didn't know they wanted to collide lead ions though. Must be a different experiment.

It could be in this universe too. If everyone viewed colors differently we'd have no way of knowing.

well the lead ions are to research the quark gluon plasma.
the main experiments (such as the higgs boson better known as the god particle) are proton-proton collisions. when protons collide quarks become free and can emit w or z bosons which can combine to make the higgs.

I never understood the argument that these people make regarding the observation of elementary particles. Consciousness doesn't make the particle exist at a certain place, after all, conscious beings aren't really the ones doing the measuring in the first place. We have computers do that for us. I understand that you have to disturb the system to observe the particle, but it still doesn't seem to follow that consciousness is causing wave-function collapse.
