Has anyone seen this yet?
I saw it this evening, and it was amazing. The story was extremely sad and beautiful, and Brad Pitt was excellent.

One of the best movies I have ever seen as I mentioned in the movies thread.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it one of the best I've seen, but definitely one of the best of 2008. **** Roger Ebert and **** RT.

Ebert was trying to say it was a re-hash of Forrest Gump, but there were only a few similarities, and they were such minor things.

I'm thinking Ebert really just missed out on the point of the movie. I've never seen him try to stress reality so much. Wtf?
I can't imagine how he could give this 2 1/2 stars and give something like Marla & Me 3.

I don't get him sometimes.
He's loved films that are just as unrealistic as this.

Ebert can only be trusted when reviewing a Scorsese movie. I mean, the man gave Die Hard like 1 star.

The movie was good, one of the better of the year, but not one of the best I've ever seen. The movie was way way too long. I mean, I can sit down and watch a movie for 2 1/2 or 3 hours and be fine, but this movie dragged a lot at parts, and the length was really bothersome.

eh I like Ebert's reviews even if I do disagree with them occasionally. People recently said he had become too soft after his illness and what not. His rather scathing review of Button is evidence to suggest the contrary I think.

I never believed that. He often rips movies to shreds these days. Normally I'm somewhere on the same page with Ebert but his review was unjustified.
I thought this movie was more similar to Big Fish than Forrest Gump. The third act was excellent, I just thought there were some slow parts throughout the movie.

I thought the story was pretty good. It was a very simple concept, but it was heartbreaking. If you were in love and couldn't be together because of a problem of your own, what would you do?

I don't mind Roger Ebert -- generally I don't think he's as hard-nosed as a lot of critics.
I haven't seen this movie -- but at the same time -- I know it looks good -- but I have no wanting to see it.

Saw bits of it (I work at the cinemas) and it looks pretty good. Will either go watch it or download it when there's a high quality copy on the net.

Haven't seen it yet, but is it a remake of something? I swear I've seen a film with the same premise before.
Tillius
12-28-2008, 06:15 PM
No. It's "based" off a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Ah, of course. That's where I know it's from. Me and my old fashioned book-learnin'.
it's really nothing like the short story at all
Tillius

Yeah I expected it to loosely follow the short story(loosely seeing as the book was about sixty pages and the movie is three hours) but it really didn't take a single thing from the original story except for the premise.

So, uh, how many times did that guy recall getting struck by lightning? I counted 5.
i almost went crazy because this guy behind me kept repeating lines right after they were said and made a crackling thunder noise every time that old guy got struck

yeah i didn't really get the point of that
i was hoping there'd be some connection but what he said after his last recollection was pretty weak, it feels like it was just thrown in so that people who would get bored of the movie would get pulled back in or something

movie was okay...brad pitt was perfect...all the actors and actresses were but the story wasn't very good...technically amazing like someone said before...and, having not read any reviews or anythin bout this until i got home, i came outta the theater saying, "Did they have to remake forrest gump already?"...i know im an spatula but it felt veryyyy similar...cudda cut a bunch of parts but it was worth seeing
too cliche as well

I'm tired of hearing that this movie was like Forrest Gump when hardly like it at all. Stories are completely different. So yes, it tells a life story of a man through narration and plays on certain characters as key people in his life but how many movies have done that and not been compared to Gump? The only reason this is being said is because it's the same writer.
