I wouldn't necessarily call music videos pointless as the they do indeed effectively offer visual represetation of a given work.

Unfortunately, most music videos turn out to be garbage as they often times have nothing to do with the actual meaning of the song. Although, this is probably most commonly seen in the rap or pop music genres.

I guess what I'm basically trying to say is that music videos have the potential to be something artistic and meaningful but not many bands/artists have the opportunity to accomplish this because of low budgets and whatnot.
