Okay, post your top 5 films released this year. Rate 1 to 5. Please keep discussion to a bare minimum. :thumb:
And yes I know some wicked films haven't been released yet this year due to being the awards season and everything, so this thread will be open until the new year. And by 'released', I mean by initial release date, not country specific. You can freely edit choices up until thread closes. After the thread closes, I'll tally up the votes and post up a summary thread that lists the top 10 films of 2008 voted by mx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's my top 5.

1. Let the Right One In
2. Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!
3. The Wrestler
4. The Dark Knight

Actually, there is more to it. I liked Harvey/Two-Face and the theme of the hero Gotham needs and the one they deserve. And I do enjoy it more than my previous comment would suggest.

So, yeah, um, I'll go with your other post that it just doesn't belong in a top 5 list.

For some reason I don't even want to see The Wrestler. It just doesn't look good to me, although I know objectively that it is.

Benjamin Button was good only because of the scope of the film. 3 hours long, a crazy plot, Brad Pitt. Other than that, I thought it dragged, and was overall just a boring movie.

Slumdog Millionaire is hands down the best film of the year. It has everything you could ask for in a movie. Frost/Nixon and Milk are distant seconds. I didn't really see too many indie films this year, so I'm not even going to try to name drop anything to sound like I know movies.

I don't hate The Dark Knight because of it's juvenile subject matter. I hate The Dark Knight because it's a mess of a movie, gotham's shining white knight turns into the biggest super villain in the span of about 5 minutes. comic book nerds look past these glaring imperfections though

I don't read comics myself much. Last few I've read were Watchmen and Maus which were really good. I wouldn't mind reading some manga but haven't got time to do so. Too busy having threesomes and playing high stakes poker, smoking cuban cigars, and livin it up in your so called 'real world'

How does Dark Knight have juvenile subject matter? I thought the film was overrated too but whatever.

I don't hate The Dark Knight because of it's juvenile subject matter. I hate The Dark Knight because it's a mess of a movie, gotham's shining white knight turns into the biggest super villain in the span of about 5 minutes. comic book nerds look past these glaring imperfections though

I'm going to say there's a reason as to why that happened. It's ok if you were in the bathroom for that part of the movie.

I hate comic books, but that was an awesome movie.

1. The Dark Knight
2. The Wrestler
3. Cloverfield
4. Gran Torino
5. Pineapple Express

I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire or Wall E but I expect one of those would be in my top 5 once I watch them so I wouldn't be surprised if my list changes.

Do you people watch anything that isn't mindless or an extended advertisement for coca cola? The idea that the films of the year would only be hollywood blockbusters is ludicrous. you people sicken me

Well all of 2008's comic book movies are better than all of 2009's.

they cast two huge actors with the premise that they'll play off each other and the barely ever se each other in the movie.
sub-par at best

the wrestler wasn't that special. mickey rourke was mickey rourke, the story was interesting and the ending was what it had to be. there was nothing incredible about it, whereas there were 3 movies that definitely had something special about them

Well...tbh says the guy who said The Wrestler was better than anything that came out last year. Tropic Thunder was funny. I never said it'd get an Oscar (but it was nominated for 1 while The Wrestler was only nominated for 2!)

But really Milk, TDK, and Wall-E were all actually better movies than the Wrestler. VCB probably had the best ending of all major movies last year and Tropic Thunder was funny. I didn't think there was anything incredible about it. I left the theater wondering if it would have been any better if it wasn't so over-hyped.

Oh and In Bruges, Frost/Nixon, and Burn After Reading were both more interesting than The Wrestler in my opinion.

nice comeback.

Tropic Thunder was funny. I never said it'd get an Oscar (but it was nominated for 1 while The Wrestler was only nominated for 2!)

wow, you're right! The Wrestler was only nominated twice, so therefore it's not a very good movie! because we all know the academy is right!

But really Milk, TDK, and Wall-E were all actually better movies than the Wrestler.

how about we just agree to disagree?
