Hi, I'm looking for a decent program to do loop editing, and etc. I'm on a mac, and I can't find any decent freeware to do this with, but let me know if something exists.

I know there are other programs out there, like Reason, but I really can't fit that under my budget. The two I suggested (130 USD, and 250 USD) will be a stretch as it is. Please let me know of alternatives that are similarly priced though.

Also, can either of these double as a DAW? I'd like to record some live instruments in addition to the looping etc. I'm not too worried about this however. I think if need be, I can track in another program and import, or something.

Any opinions are welcomed. Thanks

Just to make sure before you go out and spend money on this: you've tried Audacity, Garageband, MU.Tools FREE, and XO Wave and decided they weren't right for you?

I can't vouch for Garageband or XO Wave (I'm on Windows), but the other two should be okay for some of your basic functional needs.

Logic has great loop editors, and has what seem like endless possibilities as a DAW... but Logic Pro 8 runs about $499 I believe.

There's a version of logic for around 200 that I'm considering now. I wonder how many of the features I'd lose. But you like your version pretty well?

Moseph: I hadn't heard of XO wave, thanks. I'm in the process of giving it a whirl; at this point, it's not showing much promise with the looping, although I think I could manage using it to record live instruments etc.

Thanks

I don't personally use Logic Pro, and haven't used Logic Pro 8. I do have a lot of experience with Logic 7 though, and would say it's MIDI capabilities, and sequencing trump most other software out there. The version of Logic you're thinking of is Logic Express, which runs for $199 I believe... not sure what features you lose, but you can compare at http://www.apple.ca

Yes, except he's on a Mac. Good job with that one.
