eh, what?

There's no such things as 'folk drums' exactly. A djembe is an African tribal drum, and congas and bongos are traditional Latin/Cuban instruments.

Are you thinking of percussion instrument that you can use in folk music?

Timbales. Timpani's. Yes, get timpani's, that is how you win at life.

Timpani is a plural word, no need to add an 's'
A cajon might be something worth looking into.

Timpani would make you win at life.....

...but I wouldn't call them an 'ethnic' instrument.

Timbales are great as well, don't know enough about cajuns...

Gongs are always a plus.

Rundown of hand drums eh? Yes, I'm sure you have gone as in depth into hand percussion as anyone can. Not to mention the fact that a good portion of those aren't hand percussion instruments, you clown.

^^Dude, I think it's because you mentioned a few non-hand drums then called it a "rundown of hand drums"....

When I saw "folk drums" the first thing that came to my head was Bodhran....an Irish frame drum that you might hear in some folk music...

I guess you could look into Hang drums - awesome but expensive

or

an Udu - quite inexpensive and so much fun to be had!

Also, why are you buying yourself a Christmas present?

bodhran, cajon, darbuka, djembe, timbales, pan drum, hang drum (good luck getting your hands on one though, plus they're about $2.5K), hapi drum, congas, bongos...

not sure why folks don't like bongos and congas, they're awesome. i can understand not liking bongos; but congas? come on.

Pretty awesome stuff. Though it bugs me that trolls and spammers post gay porn. They are trying to associate the myth that a: gay porn is bad and b: the website is frequented by heterosexual males or lesbian females, which is an assumption with less merit as time goes on.

Congas are awesome, and I plan on getting some in the near future. Though I've been saying that for 5 years now.

Folk drums.....not drums made out of folks, right?
I have done work with folk bands and it is amazing how different and folk like a standard kit can sound just played with rods, brushes or even just your hands. I used some hot rods to record a song for an Irish/Celtic group and it sounded like a bodhran. Try some different sticks etc.
