it's like there's aw eird limiter that drops the volume of the sound output when i hit the drums..listen to this mp3:

www.vividedgemedia.com/roland/jazzsong-20081208.mp3

in my headphones, it wasn't doing that...the volume was consistent.

fro the record, this was with the "stock" songs that come with the unit, it did NOT do the same thing when playings songs through it on my ipod

any ideas?

I have no idea what is causing the problem, but your playing sounded pretty tight. The fills are a bit flat, but your time playing grooves well.
I dug it.

thanks, i haven't practiced in a long time since i've moved to a condo where i can't play acoustic drums..hence buying the roland...and i really need to get back to the books.

I have the same thing. Can't get my USB-interface to pick up a decent signal.

It just sounds like certain ranges are interfering with each other.

If that were the case, NONE of the Roland track would be audible.

Wow... that's gotta be hella annoying. As groovy as your playing was, I actually got REALLY annoyed thanks to that limiter. Does Roland have any forums you can check out?

Yeah, they've got a forum, but I haven't come up with anything regarding this issue.

You know, it ALMOST sounds like an issue I had with keyboards on my friend's amplifier. Thing is most amplifiers will have a cutoff circuit that keeps you from blowing the system if the sound's too loud. That might be the reason it does that when you hit the snare.

Have you tried lowering the volume to the bare minimum (on your comp's input etc.) and amplifying it afterwards?

you retard

mx adds the sputnik url to the beginning of any links posted for security reasons you have to remove the beginning part of the url in your browser that is obviously not part of what you clicked

Thanks retard, too bad I've obviously already figured that out over 12 hours ago and I've heard the audio file.

I know absolutly nothing about the roland unit you speak of, but it sounds like you've introduced compression/gate to every track triggered by your kick and snare.

The kick (or snare) hits open up the compressor - you've got a medium to long decay on the gating, hence hearing the other instuments for a short while then dropping until you hit another kick which opens it back up.

Check your compressor / gate settings - try turning them off and see if you get the same result. Do you have control over the unit's internal routing? May be why you hear it niccy-nicey in the headphones, but not on outputs.

You know, Obelisk makes a good point. Also, have you tried plugging your headphones into the "Audio Out" jack? It might tell you if it's what Obelisk is talking about. But yeah, it really does sound like some minor setting that you're going to find out about a week from today. It always is!
