View Full Version : Looking for some good rock/metal bands

Lelle
12-08-2008, 03:20 PM
What I am looking for in music:
Heavy hitting riffs, that are still melodic and catchy (Think Three days grace or Atreyu - A deathgrip on yesterday) but dark. many songs I like seem to use drop D tuning and are played on the "thickest" strings (sorry that might've sounded ridicolous, I am no guitarr player lol)
Vocals, angry or sad or both, sung with conviction and emotion
I don't know how to describe what I look for in lyrics, but if you have heard Three Days Grace: Animal I have become, Never Too Late, Riot, Get Out Alive, Over and Over, Time of Dying, One-X, I Hate Everything About You, Home, Drown, Just Like You you should know what I look for (that is to say, relateable lyrics about pain, loneliness, suicide, love gone wrong etc.)

Preferrably "modern" bands, I don't really like the bad sound quality of bands like Led Zeppelin or Nirvana

Anyone got any tips? =)

Haste The Day, Killswitch Engage, August Burns Red. Third one may be a stretch, but they are one of my favorite bands.

Hmm alright

guys could we seriously not **** all over every mainstream kid who comes on here?

Mainstream? :P I don't choose the music I listen to because it is mainstream to listen to it, I usually find my music by surfing round on YouTube, listening to random songs until I find something, i.e. Three Days Grace I discovered by listening to their song "Never Too Late", that I found very touching. Well, sorry if I can relate to "mainstream" lyrics but that is how it is.

So you're looking for music identical to what you listen to now?

Hehe, maybe my first post made that impression. Well, I took Three Days Grace as an example of how I generally like my music, since they are one of my top 5 bands to listen to, but I am starting to feel that I need some more variation.

Preferrably "modern" bands, I don't really like the bad sound quality of bands like Led Zeppelin or Nirvana

Yay is it fun quoting me Gnarmageddon? Well, it is true, there is something about the sound of those bands that I just can't stand, sorry that I exist.

To those of you who didn't troll, thanks, I will check those bands out! And the rest, try to be serious when you post! Thank you <3 :smooch:

thread starter should srsly get:
love lost but not forgotten - the cycle of hope
through the eyes of the dead - the scars of ages
prayer for cleansing - the rain in the endless fall
rifles at recess - to whisper in tongues
in death we rise/velvet dawn/the linden murder split

this stuff showcases the type of riffing atreyu goes for and fails

I was defending you bro =|

You need to realize this is an underground (ish) music site full of music elitists who scoff at folks who don't listen to the latest band to release a limited vinyl release in north Scandinavia.

As to suggestions, perhaps a stretch but I'd start with:
In Flames
Children of Bodom
Thrice
Therapy?
Avenged Sevenfold
Bridge to Solace

Those will expand your tastes a bit but I think are within the realm of music you could like.

If you really want just more of the same then idk listen to like Disturbed, 12 Stones, System of a Down, Evanescence, Papa Roach, Project 86, etc...

I'd really really suggest trying out the bands i listed first though.

yeah i didnt listen to their last album that much though, but i know there is less screamos in it. i saw them live a month ago .they rocked and Maria is so good.but id rather see her pissed off ,singing daddy's falling angel than "forever" which is more melodic!

Either you were trolling me for saying that I like three days grace a lot OR you are some random three days grace fan who needs to l2spell (not that my English is perfect though :P)

If you were the former your contribution to this topic was completely unnecessary, if you are the latter your contribution to this topic was also completely unnecessary.

I think "...wat." somehow summarizes what I think about either viewpoint perfectly

Hi Lelle,
If you really want to hear good Rocking songs that makes you feel better instead of getting disturbed.i would like to recommend some of the few big name in the world of Rockers. SO the first one to go with is Linkin park ,
Godsmack , Justin Timberlake, EMINEM , Nickel Back, Mettafix. The Akon's albums are also pleasant and refreshing one to hear.
Please feel free to reply.

The thing is: The only stuff that gets played on the radio is rehashes of old sh*t. There is plenty of great original music out there but radio refuses to play it because:
