The one you listed above is fine, but don't get Vista as that eats up a lot of memory. Something over 2Ghz on XP will go well with a gig or more of ram; can always buy the ram later.

Or instead of just buying a whole new system, look at your upgrade options.

Most likely you have an ancient motherboard at this time, so that may not be an option, but it can be a money saver.

Maybe even try to cleanup the computer you're using presently. Remove any unnecessary software, spyware scan, virus scan, cut back on applications running at any given time, defrag, maybe reformat. You get the picture. Don't spend money if you don't have to.

i wish that was the case.
but no, the computer runs well, it just cant handle new programs any more , not enough memory and all that. So im getting a new dell today, for about 125, not too bad

u can check websites like newegg.com and ibuypower.com for computer specials they have.

my friend kyle just bought a brand new dual core laptop with 4 gigs of ram (though vista is only recognizing 2.8) and all this other **** on it for $300 bc those websites are trying to unload the dual cores for quad cores and the NEW intel chips coming out early next year.

im sure u can get a tower for less than 300 if u keep ur eyes open. especially if you dont need a monitor and all that other ****, just a tower, u can prob get one real cheap. id recommend though at least 2 gigs of ram and at least 2.8ghz of P4 processor speed, and id say a 7200 rpm hard drive but u can prob scratch by with a 5600.

n even if u buy one on craigslist you can prob upgrade those rams. ask trhe seller if he ever upgraded before, like if the ram is maxed out at 1, or if what the deal is.

I built my recording computer for less than $500, granted I already had a monitor and my friend gave me a gig of 667 Ram. At the time I built it (spring 2007) it wasn't top of the line, but it was still powerful and I built it with major upgradability in mind. It has a Pentium D 820, which at the time was Intel's weakest dual core, but its upgradable to the latest Core 2 Duo, and I think it even supports Quad cores as well. Gotta love good motherboard choices.

So like, I can spend not even $200 and get the best dual core processor and another gig or two of Ram and have a really mean machine to play with.

It might be worth going that route, but you'll need more than $200 to do it effectively. By buying a cheap used computer, you can get substandard components (people oftentimes get crappy motherboards and power supplies to cut costs) that probably won't upgrade well, if at all.

Don't really see why you made this thread, seems to me like you already had your mind made up. But anyways if you're happy, congrats on the purchase.
