Yay, haven't made a solid thread in a while, everyone post your christmas wishes which are drum related, so no Barbie's or Hannah Montana cell's

I'm in need of a new snare stand, I'm thinking of the Mapex one that allows lower snare positioning for deeper shell'd snares [Akira snare is 7" plus the fuggin' wood hoops so I'm not gettin' that Steve Smith leeeaaannn going on like I'd like]

I'd like to get 15" 2002 Soundedge hats or a Yammie 12x6 Musahi snare. That would be what I want drum related

But chances are i'll just get records lol.

I dunno. tbh the only thing I've asked for are like 2 PS3 games, which I would've just bought myself already if my parents didn't insist on getting me ****.

I want a lot of cymbals for my kit, but I'm not gonna make my parents dish out $200+ for them when I can easily afford them myself. Maybe I'll ask for a cowbell? I could use one of those. Maybe some drum books.

i'm asking for nothing like that last 5 or 6 years. i keep telling my folks not to buy me anything, but they're too nice to listen.

i've already got some stuff under the tree, but i don't know what it is. it's not drum related, i know that. my folks don't know enough about drums/music to buy me anything like that.

lasat year, they did give me something like $90 to help me buy my new throne. that was cool. they also bought me aheads, which i returned for promarks. the salesman told my mom that aheads were the best sticks ever, so she bought them. when i went to return them, the guy thought i was crazy because i didn't want them.

i thought he was retarded for insisting i keep them.

I don't normally ask for drum things because I would rather try out and buy drum stuff myself. I couldn't think of anything I wanted for christmas this year tbh, except I asked my parents if they would get me winter tires for my car but my dad claims I dont need them even though all season tires have proven to be useless for winters in the prairies

I may ask for a couple drum books though. I have a couple snare solo books in mind, and I may add the Art of Bop Drumming to the list, as well as some books by Gary Chaffee.

I wouldn't ask for things, but my mom tells us to make lists every year. I think it kind of ruins the whole gift giving thing though because no one has to put any thought into it.

Two main wants right now
DJ Gear
Drum Gear

DJ Gear
CDJ200's -- $600ish
Tascam XS3 -- $100ish
Drum Gear
A few mounts -- $100ish

Just gonna have my family gimme money; that'll round out to maybe $400.
Gonna sell all of my old drum stuff; (poopload of B8, B8 pro and ZXT cymbals, and a CB set) might round out to like $400ish. After that, I'm gonna get a job so I can buy a Sabian HH Prototype Crash Ride to replace my Evolution; need something with a different tone, and that can take more of a beating. Might also work for a few new booms and splashes as well.

My grandmother gave me my Christmas money early, so i'm buying Metaldrummer's AA Rock Crash 18".

I guess it wouldn't be of much use to someone who doesn't watch sports games or movies, not to mention the HD music channels and whatnot, or has one of the new consoles. The PS3 and Xbox output up to 1080p, so you aren't running stuff at it's full potential if you aren't running it through HD.

HD is overrated.

Yeah, it looks good, but....meh....not that big of a deal.

If people want high definition video, why don't people want high definition audio?

There is still a demand for High Def audio, it just isn't nearly as much as the demand for high definition video. That's why they produce and sell a fair amount of THX certified audio equipment. The stuff is just highly expensive, and obviously for the average person, the quality of video is going to be more noticeable, and therefore more important to them, so they're much more likely to spend the money on the TV and buy a cheaper "theater in a box" system. It cuts down on price and the hassle of buying seperate components and hooking them all up. It's only us audio geeks that get off on hooking that **** up. In the past couple years though, the "theater in a box" home theater systems have improved greatly.

mp3s cut off the higher frequencies of audio files, thus you aren't enjoying music to its greatest potential.

At higher encoding frequencies like 320 kbps and (anything above) 256 kbps, the frequency loss is literally unnoticeable to the human ear. I know you know that, I just felt like pointing it out.

Seafroggys
12-14-2008, 11:05 PM
does your average consumer care though?

Probably not.

Hi-fi video is more important than hi-fi audio for whatever reason.

Hell, hi-fi systems of the 70s trump shitty ipod headphones and crappy ipod dock speakers any day of the weak. But when was the last time you saw a hi-fi system for sale in a consumer electronics department?

Motleyguy
12-14-2008, 11:27 PM
Quite regularly when I visit Future Shop, and when I go to the local audio/video store. So 3 days ago or so was the last time I saw one... but you are right, people just don't generally care about audio. Probably because the general public doesn't notice a big enough difference.

Harrow

Motleyguy
12-15-2008, 12:25 AM
Yeah, as I was saying, the difference between SD and HD video is very easily recognizable, so people pay more attention to it. The difference between lo fi and hi fi audio is not as easily recognizable to the average person, or they simply don't care.

Don't they spaz out if they hear high frequencies?

Aaron
12-15-2008, 05:50 PM
It depends on frequency. They've got sensitive ears so they hear the detail in a wider range, so if it's a nice tone they'll probably like it, just at a lower volume. Tilly [my dog] loves BTBAM, always comes into the room when I put them on. Doesn't like it with subs on so much though.

edit: Tone is subjective though, so I dunno what the correct answer is. Maybe some dogs like music and some don't?

but she, you're still off.

'High-end audio system'

'average HD TV'

hmmm....

I'm simply saying HD TV's are much less expensive than "High Def" audio set ups are, therefore making them more acceptable. It costs roughly $800 - $1700 to get a good TV that plays back in full HD (This estimate is based on common sizes between 37" - 50". What do you think it costs to pick up a whole "high def" audio system... I'm not sure, but I can pretty much guarantee you it's a hell of a lot more than that.

Maybe it's time to try a new mp3 player? I've had my same 80gig classic for 2-3 years now.

I thought about it but I have over 700 albums not including all the songs I downloaded so having to put all of them onto my PC again onto something that isnt Itunes doesn't do it for me. Im a slave to Apple now.
