[/Obligatory double-innuendo thread title]
As of late, I've been using my 8" tom primarily as an effect-tom. What i like to do is crank it really high, so it gives off a timbale/rototom/octoban-type sound.
My head setup on it is an Evans G1 Clear for batter, Evans Clear Resonant for reso. I enjoyed the setup, but I thought that since the reso head isn't exactly
the most resonant (Ironic) head out there, I began to think what i could use instead; but then I thought, "eh, screw it, this is an effect tom anyway, let's just take the reso head off..."
And wowie, it sounded cool. It's like... the term that i'd use to describe it is "Rototom of death." It does indeed sound very roto-ish, but it packs a big impact. And so, after playing around with that, I went into the inside of the drum and unscrewed the bottom bindings; the drum got a little bit more bright and ringy.
Comments/suggestions for diy projects and things like that?
