So the leedy has taken me this far....all 4 years. It's still going strong but i want a new kit.

I'm looking for a setup of 10x8 12x9 14x14 16x16 with a 22x20 bass drum.

Ive been looking on the bay and can see some good offers but nothing that i can dive into for definite.

Any suggestions on what kinda kits/brands to be looking out for?

Budget is probably somewhere around the £5-600 mark.

I'll almost defiantly go second hand.

Thanks

lol your kit budget is the same as your pedal budget

You know what brands are good, you've been on here forever. And your buying second hand, we can't really give you a run down of used kits you might find.

I wouldn't get 22x20s. Sure they're all the rage at the moment, but those extra 2 inches make it a pain in the *** to move the drums around, and in the long run you dont really notice a difference in sound.

mapex m birch brit rock config is almost those sizes except the bass drum is 22x18. If not i'd go for a 2nd hand pro m, or maybe ddrum if they are your kind of thing.

You're better saving and going pro or custom IMO. If you're silly enough to go for a intermediate kit, I say sonnor or Mapex. I love mapex kits! And they make awesome snares too. Also, will your hardcase take the 22x20. I think mine was custom built to take the extra inches

This, you should know by now roughly whats good and whats not

Agreed.

You should save a little while longer and go pro man, it'll be better in the long run. I mean if this is gonna be the kit you want in the exact sizes you want you should go top level. But thats my opinion.

If you really need advise on brands I say go Yammie

Larger bass drums can be a big pain on the stage too. Mine used to slip towards the edge of the riser from time to time, no matter how I set my spurs.

I had 2 24x18s and 1 26x18 in the past.

jesus, a 26?

I've got a 24 right now. It is a bit of a pain as far a moving it around goes, but I love the beastly sound it puts out as well as it's stage presence.

I've found that it's weight has helped it stay in place pretty well, and on carpet sliding is a non-issue.

Yeah, it was on one of the limited production Starclassic Hyper-drive (before the mass release.) I had it on lease from a collector buddy of mine who has since sold it off.

Red Sparkle Fade. Red monster, how I miss it.

I had an Iron Cobra double on it for one show, I guess that much repeated shock caused it to slip.

Ah well, I can imagine dbl bassing would do that. I play minimalist space rock, so my bass hits are usually few and far between.

Even though saving up and going for some pro-line shells does have it's advantages (great sound of course!), I would still hesitate personally. I would personally feel pretty insecure bringing my $5000 DW shells to a gig. I would much rather invest in something intermediate like a Pro M to cart around and get beat up a bit because it still has a decent sound. Then you can either borrow some nice shells for recording or use the ones that don't leave your practice room ;)

Yeah, carting around expensive drums usually ends in tears, even with hard cases.

Simply setting up on stage exposes those ridiculously expensive shells to scratches, nicks, and other damage.

Or you can have a rack tom from a 1960's Sonor kit go flying out of the back of a truck like happened to my teacher haha :D

OMFG, I would have dove after it.

That would seriously make me freak out, I don't even know what I would do. I would probably use superlatives that don't even exist yet.

He said he actually cried, and then he put up wanted posters and an ad in the local paper. Some guy apparently found it on his lawn and called him. He was so happy to get it back that he paid the guy $100.

Oh, hell!

I thought you meant he was aware of it flying out the back, as in being able to slam on the brakes immediately and retrieve it.

Dude, that would cause me some mental anguish. I'd reward the finder too.

Here is one for a little more than what you listed, but it has the sizes you are looking for.

The Avalons are not worth the price tag.

Way over what he mentioned.

Ah fair enough. Well I've never seen them in any shops over here but hey. Not like they're worth the price they charge.
