View Full Version : help with monitors (speakers)

so im doing some recording with my macbook but the built in speakers dont cut it and neither do headphones. What do you guys think of these? my budget is $100 so if you have any other ideas, gimme a link

i also want them for like regular speaker use ( listening to music and sound through the laptop)


its through a macbook
i guess it has the standard sound card

any advice please

you can't really tell until you listen to them for yourself. When my brother went out to buy hes desktop speakers he was thrown in between Bose and Logitech.
He ended up getting Logitech THX even though bose is like top of the line.
With your budget I suggest just going to Best Buy or circuit city and checkin some out for yourself.

For $100, a decent set of a headphones is a better choice. Any monitors that are $100 are more than likely going to be crap. I will now give part of the typical Moseph speech here, and tell you that generally, even with a decent set of monitors, your room also isn't acoustically treated, and unless you know a fair bit about acoustics, you will have problems with frequency masking, standing waves etc. So I recommend a pair of decent headphones, I use a set of Sony MDR V300's most of the time, and they work well enough for me. I also have a set of Fostex T20RP's, which is an audio industry standard headphone. Moseph, Froggys, any other recommendations for headphones?
