How can you buy or sell the sky
Or the warmth of the land it's strange to us
We don't own the freshness of the air
Or the sparkle of the water
How can you buy them from us
The white man doesn't understand our ways
For he's a stranger who comes in the night
And takes from the land just what he needs

Oh yeah

He treats his brothers like his enemies
When it's completed he moves on
He leaves his father's grave and his birthright
His birthright is forgotten
The air is precious to the red man
For all things share the same breath
The white man won't notice the air he breathes
Like a man dying for many days

All right now

The whites must treat the beasts of his land
As his brothers not his enemies
Tell me what is man without the beasts
I'll bet he will die of loneliness

One thing we know that the white man will
We know our god is the same god
You may think you wish to own him
Own him as you wish to own our land
But he is the body of man
And the earth is precious to him
Continue to contaminate your bed
And you will suffocate in your waste

Vegetaman

Ozzy just wants to pull another 1992 where he gets Ronnie pissed off enough to leave Tony and Geezer behind again. And then they'll get Tony Martin back for a good album and a **** album. Then we'll get nothing new out of the Sabbath camp for the next 10 years after that but compilations of compilations.

Ozzy Sabbath is pretty much done. After the Reunion live album came out they pretty much sat on their *** waiting for Ozzy to get with the program and nothing happened. They've done more with Ronnie in two years than they did with Ozzy in 10. Plus they didn't even change their Ozzfest setlists for Black Sabbath outside of the most overdone staple songs of all time (except for Dirty Women) thanks to The Ozzman.

Heaven and Hell will be touring to promote their new album, then Geezer will go back to GZR to make more of that heavy for the sake of being heavy metal, Ronnie will go back to Dio to work on Magica II/III, and Iommi will pair up with Glenn Hughes again to make another album for his solo band since 2005's Fused.

This is like the last chapter of the Sabbath history book, folks. Enjoy it while it lasts, and go see 'em if you have the chance. Heaven and Hell puts on a live show twice as good as the original Black Sabbath, IMO. And yes, Geezer said earlier this week that all the Heaven and Hell tracks are recorded and they're recording a making of video for "Tomorrow".

I saw Heaven and Hell last year, I'll probably see them again if they come back to Plymouth.

And Forbidden wasn't that bad of an album. Sure everything else in the TM era is superior to it but on the whole I quite like it.

I had all 3 GZR albums until recently, I sold Plastic Planet because I couldn't actually listen to it all the way through without getting bored and Ohmwork was just a bit meh. I've still got Black Science.

Ohmwork is terrible.

I saw Heaven and Hell in Nov '07 and Sept '08. Yes, definitely great both times.

I saw Black Sabbath back in '04, and had to leave half way through the set. Ozzy got through War Pigs, NIB, and half of Into the Void then his voice gave out and I just wanted to leave after that because it was so pathetic.

Ohmwork had its moments of being alright, as did Plastic Planet but as a whole they were both pretty naff.

I wanted to see Sabbath in 2005 but I couldn't afford it. I bought the Last Supper DVD instead.

Veggie and I saw Sabbath in '05. Ozzy was really great, until he cracked during Dirty Women, then ran offstage. They extended the jam even more, then did Paranoid and left, skipping 3 or 4 songs in the process.

I have Plastic Planet and it is okay (though nothing special). I have wanted to get Black Science since it is supposed to be the best of the three (the one that is the least "heavy for the sake of heavy", anyway). And I skipped out on Ohmwork because it was terrible. There's a couple of good riffs from Ohmwork but they're so short and buried amidst so much crap it isn't even worth it.

Indeed. I am most sad that they didn't play Black Sabbath, because I have always loved the solo Iommi does live for that song. Heaven and Hell was a far superior act than Black Sabbath, IMO. Hopefully they revamp their setlist after their new album to include some of their new songs, plus maybe Turn Up The Night, Letters From Earth, TV Crimes, and stuff like that. :chug:

Ironically enough, they actually played it on the 1992 Dehumanizer tour. In fact, they played:

-Computer God
-I
-TV Crimes
-Master of Insanity
-Time Machine

And they never even played After All (The Dead), except for whatever medley of it Iommi busted out at various points later on as they dropped probably TV Crimes and Time Machine from the setlist.

Go figure. I mean, they even played Country Girl live a few times, but there's one you'll probably NEVER see live again. :smash:

As long as they keep Die Young and Sign of the Southern Cross I'll be happy.

I could do without Sign of the Southern Cross. They could fit TV Crimes and Master of Insanity in its place.

12-14-2008, 01:34 PM
I like Sign of the Southern Cross but it does indeed take up too much set time. And I like Heaven and Hell, but the extended version kills an extra song or two (or a full scale Iommi guitar solo).

I could have lived with Heaven and Hell being about half as long live. Plus the drum solo can go away as well.

Brew

the drum solo was kinda cool, but the 26minute version of Heaven and Hell we got (at least, someone told me it was that long) could definately do with being shortened.

FatalEnergy

They did it back in the 80s too. I also would suggest that they didn't do it, and yeah the drum solo wasn't all that spectacular.

Then again, they're big arena shows and ****. Most people are just average fans that aren't musicians so they probably think that drum solo is the most awesome thing they've ever seen. That, and most of them are drunk.

I have the bootleg for the Heaven and Hell show I was at with pate in Chicago (Sept 2007), and the track for Heaven and Hell is 21 minutes and change long. And the drum solo takes up 5 minutes. Sign of the Southern Cross clocks in at just over 9 minutes. So there's an easy almost 25 minutes of set time regained, which is easily 3 or 4 new songs.

And, hilariously, right when the band comes out again and Ronnie says "we're gonna play one more", you can hear some guy in the crowd scream out loud "IRON MAN!" before Ronnie yells "Neon Knights".

I mean, not everybody in the crowd knows what they're seeing when they go to the show. I had people next to me who thought that the sped up part of Heaven and Hell was a different song. And like half of the crowd sat down for Falling off the Edge of the World. I think if the band played something like Holy Diver, the majority of the crowd would be even more lost. Only the Dio solo band can get away with playing Rainbow and Sabbath classics coupled with his solo material.

It would be awesome if they would play something like Over and Over (off of Mob Rules) and let Iommi do an extended solo to that where he could just rip like mad.

While I do agree with you, the idea is not completely unwarranted or out of left field. For reference, they played Smoke on the Water on the Born Again tour with Ian Gillan back in 1983. They did a pretty good job, actually.

Vegetaman
12-15-2008, 08:10 PM
The Sabbath Camp is notorious for saying a bunch of bull. Hell, I'm pretty sure Iommi hates Sharon (but don't quote me on that), but that all got put aside for 10 years of Ozzfest reunion shows. Not only that, but there were also some epic spats between the Ozzy camp and the 80s-Sabbath camp (none of which I shall repeat here; you'll have to read the books and scour the web on your own for these tidbits of joy). But when money is involved, it changes what goes on.

And on to Dio... Ronnie mentioned that he'd never work with Doug Aldrich again after Killing The Dragon and the Evil or Divine live DVD came out (after he went back to Whitesnake), but alas Craig Goldy falls ill and who fills in on the Holy Diver Live DVD? None other than Doug Aldrich. Geezer is the king of retelling stories and leaving out information or changing it entirely (especially when discussing lyrics or the meaning behind the song Black Sabbath). And Iommi... He's just absolutely hilarious.

Some feuds, however, such as Vivian Campbell vs. Ronnie James Dio... There's something that is so nasty that it will never be patched up. Ronnie values Iommi's guitar playing, despite whatever small jabs he may have made to the contrary (and the same for Geezer and Vinny), but the feud is no where near the level that Vivian and Ronnie have going on.

The biographical movie on the band should be entitled "The Black Sabbath Story: I Never Said That"

This exactly. We have had several hilarious conversations to this effect. You could even package that with a special feature which includes a twenty minute segment called "Tony Iommi makes unintentional funnies".

"Who is Glenn Hughes? I want to make an album with him."

"What arguments? We've always been the best of friends, since forever."
