I am a producer and a composer of original music. Listen to my original song "Wander Through Chaos". If you like it, also check out "Reveal The Scenery" by Lawrence Trailer, which I am producing. I write most of the parts in the arrangements of the songs I produce. In this case, Lawrence recorded his acoustic guitar and vocals, and I wrote the drums, bass, electric guitar, synth, and organ parts.

got my toes tapping, so right off the bat I can say I like it- not really my style, the vocals kind of throw me off. they feel a bit self conscious to me, and also, they're just not powerful enough for the rest of the song. double track em, maybe add a harmony above/below them, maybe distort the harmony, or something

I think it's just the limitations inherent in my voice. I don't have a gritty, edgy voice. I have a smooth, high, Yorke-like voice. I do the best I can with it, but it's never gonna sound like Niravana or Foo Fighters, ya know? What does it mean for the vocals to sound self-conscious? As in, they don't come naturally?

yeah, they don't come naturally. it sounds like you're doing a cover of your own song or something. I would expect vocals like this:

Maynard's voice is one of my least favorite of all talented rock singers. He has good technique, but I find his sound to be monotonous and dull. I realize that my opinion of him is uncommon among music lovers, and that I am considered practically reprobate for thinking him to be boring. But if you think my vocals should sound like Tool's, then perhaps you haven't understood where this song is supposed to be coming from, because it's nothing like Tool, even though this song does have a bit of an industrial edge to it.
The Deftones are cool though, but I don't listen to them too often. These bands are not influences for me. I don't bend the pitch all over the place like Chino. I don't scream too often at all, that's not what my music is like. My voice simply doesn't sound good when I scream. I think it's not so much a lack of technique, it's actually how my voice is. I go for melodic, soaring, sometimes ethereal vocals. So doing vocals like the ones you pointed out is not an option for me. While this song has a more industrial kind of sound to it than most of my songs, in general I am more influenced by bands like Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, The Beatles, and U2.
Perhaps you could give me a review that takes into account better what the song is setting out to achieve. I would appreciate that very much indeed. If you are interested, then please check out my myspace page at:

and listen to "Ghost Talker", which is a good example of the kind of ethereal sound I strive for. The production on it is a little outdated compared to what I can do now, but musically it's ok.
Thanks for all your input!
