View Full Version : Forgive Durden - Razia's Shadow

I'm sort of a sucker for concept albums and this definitely fits into the category.
Razia's Shadow is the very ambitious second album from Forgive Durden (which is now officially only comprised of one dude, Thomas Dutton). Razia's Shadow is a musical. At first I was a little skeptical because it seemed a little pretentious but I got pretty excited when I heard about the ridiculous amount of guest vocals the album features. People that make an appearance: Casey Crescenzo, Lizzie Huffman, Max Bemis, Chris Conley, Danny Stevens, Brendon Urie, Dan Young, Greta Salpeter, Nic Newsham, John Gourley, Kris Ayana and Shawn Harris.
You can listen to the album stream here:

I think it's definitely worth a listen. It's different.

Eh, I really want to like this, but I can't. For an album that relies so heavily on lyrics and storyline, it's so empty of real feeling. I get more emotion listening to a Say Anything record than this. And they completely wasted Aaron Weiss's vocal talent.

I don't know if I like this or not. I think Thomas Dutton tried way too hard on this though.

double post al3rt.
A week of listening later and this is my favorite album for the year.
Sure it's hell cheesy in parts but I don't care. To me, it is awesome and has overtaken Jack's Mannequin by an inch or two.
I just love it.

There are a lot of retarded band names.
As long as they make good music, I don't care.

This album has one good song on it, tbh.
Life Is Looking Up
Which is a GREAT song, mind you, but the rest of the album is fairly forgettable. I dig orchestral stuff, and i'd love to see him write a pop-punk influenced orchestral album, but this doesn't do it for me.

You only like that song because it's the one true pop-punk song on the album with no guest vocalists or anything.
And you only like THAT because you are close minded and unable to like anything different.

Or because he's unable to like anything ****.

I saw Forgive Durden perform this album live in its entirety tonight. I haven't actually listened to the album, but the show was pretty awesome, so I'm sure it's good recorded as well.

I like that song because it's different. Pop-punk with an unusual and unique twist.
I like all the guest vocals except for the guy from Saves the Day, who's whiny and annoying. I love the chick from the hush sound, for example, and Max Bemis. The Doctor guest is also very good at what he's doing.
But the rest of the album is poorly realized. The songs (besides the aforementioned one) don't exist well on their own, but don't work as a whole because the story is generic and stupid nonsense. I'd rather musical influenced pop-punk that hasn't really been explored above a generic musical that you can hear anywhere else done better.
