Death of your spouse

Having just got back from my grandfather's funeral procession, it had me wondering. Not of death and 'is there an afterlife' religious machinations. It had me wondering of something far more simplistic.

Who would you prefer to die first, and why?

I would prefer my spouse to die first, for then she would not suffer the pain of loss after a marriage of 50+ years. It would go against my selfless nature to make her endure the hardship of feeling alone.

I'd rather they die first so that I can experience the death of a spouse. Not that I think it would be fun but it would be an experience.

Plus then you get the opportunity to be all grave and hardened. Maybe shed a few stoic tears and spend the rest of your days haunted by memories of your lost lover. Badass.
