View Full Version : Anyone tried fitting a 22x18 kick into a mustang?

I am thinking about purchasing a 97 For Mustang. Though I am a bit concerned about whether or not I can get my giggin kit in there. My biggest concern is the kick....I'm pretty sure I will be able to plop it on the front seat. But it would be nice to leave that open for potential passengers i.e. post gig action if ya know what I mean. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me the feasibility in squeezing it past the front seat and into the back. Is there any light to this conundrum?
I will eventually try it myself when considering the purchase...but for now I am resorting to the forums for answers.
Thanks for any sharing!

If by post gig action, you mean taking your drunk bass player to the drive-thru at Micky D's - then I'm reading you loud and clear. :thumb:
Not sure about the 'Stang, but I've had pretty good luck folding seats back to allow for kicks in the back seat of 2-doors. My old man had a Nissan Pulsar I used to take to gigs, I would do this to get the kick in, I imagine they are smaller than 'Stangs.

'post gig action' for me usually involves lugging all the drum gear back to the car long after everyone else has left the venue, then getting home at retard-o'clock, and falling into bed.
im hardcore like that you see.

well i can fit a 20x16 bass into a toyota echo (4-door, anyway). A 22x18? Won't fit through a door. But a 22x16? Yes. (Btw, I own all three of those sizes and have tried with all of them).
And that's just the backseat, I'm sure I'd be able to get them all in the front seat if needed.
So, I'm sure this post helped you a lot, seeing as you're not looking to buy a toyota echo. :thumb:

I fit mine into the back of a Cadillac?
You should be able too, I had a case for mine and stuff, I just had to angle it to get it in then it would be fine.

Another reason to use a 20" kick.

Buy a truck... be a real man. I can fit my entire kit comfortably into my truck and still have room for multiple passengers.

I don't drive a truck, and my manliness is in no way sacrificed.
And I get better gas mileage. :p But really, I hate driving trucks. I've driven my dad's Silverado and my grandpa's F150 multiple times. I hate them both. Small hatchbacks ftw.

I pay .60 per litre for fuel. Propane powered truck ftw. best of both worlds.

From my experience, hatchbacks are your best bet. I drive a Acura RSX and I comfortably fit a 22x18 bass drum in it. along with the rest of the gear with the back seat down.
Should be fine, at least in the passenger seat. Consider yourself lucky though; I play a 24x22 kick and to get it into my Buick I have to leave the case at home and take both hoops off. Even then it only fits in the front.

I drive a Lincoln Town Car. The whole kit fits in the trunk. :thumb:

I could fit my entire 6 piece kit in a 2 door sunfire and have room for 2 people.. I actually prefer to take the car rather than the truck... Wish I had a cover for my truck...
-mustang... I dunno, I actually have one sitting in my yard, I think it's a 94, my sisters.. But couldn't see why not.
Other thing, I don't know how many cars does this, but with the sunfire the passenger seat flips ahead further than the drivers seat. Maby common sense? I dunno, but it took me a coulpe times saying, damn its easier putting this bass drum in the passenger side rather than the drivers.. WHY??
ahaha, duhh! stupid asshole

I can fit a 22x18 in a 4 door 1992 Jetta. I think the biggest problem is getting the front seat far enough forward and down.
It should fit fine in the back.
Ask if you can try fitting it?
haha.

man your money could be so much better spent than on a mustang
if your hell bent on getting it you could install a tow hitch and pull a small trailer

Thanks guys! I'm hopign it will fit, and I am feeling a little better about it. My friend is selling the Mustang for $2000, which is practically a steal. I think Imma gonna buy it!
seriously bro, i could fit my 5 piece with rack into my sisters mazda and still have room for me, her, and one more person.

but even the mazda has a trunk opening bigger than 22". Mustang trunk doors are TINY and the coupe doors are useless and there's no real back seat to 'em, so unless you get a convertible it's not going to be easy to get anything in back.

let me tell you... i own a 'stang and sports cars and drums dont mix... if you want the car get it but you might be making double around trips and potentially ruining the interior of the car

I used to fit a piece double bass kit into a 75 Camero but I wouldn't suggest it.

If it were me, I'd buy, re-sell it for more money, and then buy something I could use. But hey, that's just the practical side of me talking.

pfft, havn't met a practical person of the male gender yet.. That's in the female genes!! Unless he's got a wife or real real close girlfriend, the TS is screwed!! Mustang it is! Unpractical AND FUN!!!

it'll fit in the back. I have a 97 mustang gt, convertable. and thats the only way it(22x16) would fit in the back seat. putting the top down then back up. and i put it in long ways.
so yes, if convertable.

Word of warning. I once owned a porsche 944 and squeezed my kit in there for a few gigs. The bass drum is a 20" and would only go in without the case on. Consequently, it got scratched up in places.

Aha! It fits! I tried it, and my 22x18 kick slid right into the back seat with plenty of breathing room. Awesome.
