Billy ward is the man. Love his playing
I was also suprised by the Thomas Pridgen video. I thought it would be a three minute gospel chops solo. But the man can groove!

Pridgen is a great player.
Personally I think he's about as exciting as watching paint dry.
Chops + Loud followed by generic groove bored me to tears.
Will Calhoun is sick though.
Billy Ward's a great player, but I really don't dig the music he's always playing to.
Keith Carlock's solo from '05 is up there too. Probably my favourite solo ever, that.

Its being held at my school, SUNY Purchase. Got tickets for tomorrow's event, was $85 a day and didn't really have the money for the whole weekend.

Will Calhoun's setup video shows him playing a Duallist!
That's got to be the first 'big-name' I've seen with one of those :p

Gotta agree with razor, these festivals are pretty boring to me. There are some cool parts to be sure, but most of the time its just chop-fest.

I personally thought Calhouns drumset sounded crappy and he was pretty sloppy.

It all depends on the lineup really, there's always some great players, and some not-so great ones. I feel sorry for the people that attend the show and have to put up with crap like Derek Roddy.
One great thing about the DVDs they put out is all the interviews they have behind the scenes. There's some really interesting things in those.

Totally what I was about to say.
What was the deal with his "timbale" tom? It sounded terrible...
His playing just really didnt do anything for me..

The interviews are the best part for me. I enjoy going into why they play what the play and how they come up with the ideas.
