So I was just listening to Jacknife's Stand Your Ground. And noticing how similar it is to Life to Lifeless by Killswitch Engage.

It has this one riff that goes
16th notes = x
1----2----3----4----5----6----7|
xx xx xxxxxxxx xx---|

that's read 1e 2e and uh 4eanduh 5e 6e

very similar to the opening riff in life to lifeless what do you guys think?

You can't plagarise a rhythm, they've all been done before at every tempo by someone.

Yeah. And half the crazy ones have been taken by Meshuggah.

the chiffons actually successfully sued George Harrison over rhythm.

Well also if you listen to the whole song it sounds like something else I have heard in the past. Or I just forgot how good they were.

haha, reminds me soo much of the 12-bar blues. The same licks over and over again, across all the different artistes.

Wagner is the only metalhead out there.

the very opening riff in Trivium's song Anthem is a dead on copy of the opening riff in Rise Against's song Torches (i think thats the song)

like freedom of RATM and Led Zep's Kashmir. But I think that's a tribute

and yeah, it's more of a tribute.

Unfortunately, a lot of sub-par bands lacking a creative imagination have a philosophy that all you have to do is change the key, speed or change a note to compose an original riff. However, at the same time, quite a lot of 'plagiarism' is accidental, i.e. you'll work out something you like then realise it sounds exactly like something band x wrote 5 years ago.

Its grotesque though how incestuously stale some scenes are, e.g. there are bands who've never heard of At The Gates but use practically identical riffs because they are copying a band who copied ATG, or even a band who copied a band who copied ATG.

If anybody has heard I Rape Myself by Caliban they'll hear that the whole song is an As I Lay Dying rip off, like really really bad rip off.

lol i remember thinking that exact same thing when i heard that song
but then again any metalcore song still using the 8, 7, and 10 routine over and over again is pretty damn stupid anyway

jrowa001

Caliban are one of the worst metalcore bands anyway

Dimmu Burger

lol thats true, Caliban have some of the worst vocals as well.

if Turbonegro werent so awesome than im pretty sure they wouldve been sued like 5 times from songs on their album Party Animal. off the top of my head there is a definite Ramones and Queen rip-offs
