I built this custom kit on Drum Workshop.com and I imported cymbals from my old drumset. As well as my DW9000 double bass pedal :)

What do you think?

Set up looks a bit funny to me but its pretty cool

I find it pretty easy to work with. I mean, my ride sits in the middle so my arms are within reach of every drum and cymbal.

Except my China. I need to reposition that haha.

I'm sure that set up works well for you, but I guarantee that if you set it up properly it would feel even better. I went through many set ups, and they all felt fine, but then I finally set it up in a traditional way and it was incredibly comfortable.

Well my old set was traditional. But I like this.

nice kit, however i find every last bit of that set up to be completely horrendous. especially the whole sitting backwards thing. that part makes no sense.

also you have about a $300 tom just sitting on the floor.

Haha, well That tom I feel is not needed

Same here.

Except the kit doesn't really run to my tastes. That said, I can hardly deny it's a good kit.

well I like it that way.

I guess it's all preference.

Drum Phil

I used to think that.

Preference doesnt necassarily make it efficient to play.

sweet kit...but why did you get a DW if you just started playing?

i want it.

This. Setting your kit up efficiently is the most comfortable/sensible thing to do.

I remember when I posted my new kit everyone was like "nice kit, awful set up", and I thought screw you guys it feels fine to me. Little did I know, I was doing it so wrong, and I'm so much happier that I'm doing it right now.

KAFDJSDJDSFK I really do envy people with a lot of money and little drumming experience being able to afford a DW kit and not set it up properly >_< Not hating on you or anything, this is just jealousy :) Make sure you treat it nice, you will regret it later on if you beat the hell out of it now. Also, I think having those 2 larger toms as floaters instead of floor toms is a HUGE mistake, but that is part of my personal preference.

the lugs/hardware make it look like a pdp.. looks cheap imo but im sure it sounds great. cymbals look a little high for me but whatever.

nice.

I really saved up for that man. Like, 2 summers of steady working 2 jobs.

I mean, I've been playing for 5 months seriously. So I figure, why spend money on getting 400 drumsets before I get the one of my dreams and actually save up and just get the one I want the most.

I have colon cancer and started chemo yesterday.

I have colon cancer and started chemo yesterday.

Depends on how aggressive a chemo cocktail they make for you. I was able to play up until my sixth treatment. Then started up again about 4 weeks after chemo was over.

So you had 6 treatments? That's not that bad. I have one treatment every week. I don't know how brutal it is, because they said my first time that I would probably throw up and feel nauseas.

Oh really? But I can trust you?

It's the internet. If I actually tried to analyse everything I read here, I wouldn't leave this spot. I have to take everything at face value until proven otherwise.

No. I had 10 but I was only "down" drum wise for the last 4.

ya it's all good. But I'm glad you guys like the set haha. I'll set it up traditionally tomorrow and see how it feels. I'm too drained today to do anything.

Hang tough. I made it through OK at 48 years old....and I'm diabetic to boot.
Getting as much rest as you can helps a lot.

good luck with all the chemo. at least you have a bad *** kit to look forward to playing once your energy levels are back.

having something to look forward to is always a good way to keep your spirits up.

Man, sorry to hear you're going through chemo and all. I'll be praying you get better soon, eh.

Don't strain yourself - that's pretty much the number one way to undo any healing the chemo is doing and make things a lot worse.

colon cancer! holy cripes! i hope you get through whatever awaits you without too much suffering.

awesome kit, btw. i would love to have something like that. i would probably set it up a little differently though. here's what i'd do if it were mine.

- raise the snare. the batter head looks like it's level with the throne. i like it so the batter head is just above the top of my legs (so i can hit rimshots!)
- put the small tom back on, raise the stand a bit and move the stand closer to the bass drum so the rack toms are more over the bass drum instead of way off to the far left.
- lower the crash cymbal on the right.
- move the china to the left a little
- raise the floor toms so they're the same height as the snare

but if you're happy with it the way it is, then leave it alone.
