View Full Version : Do you own any artist's full discography?

EightMilesHigh
09-12-2008, 09:41 AM
Not including greatest hits, re-releases, etc.

I was organizing my CDs the other day and realized I've bought every Interpol album. It's only three albums (Turn On The Bright Lights, Antics, Our Love To Admire) but still.

Is there any band or artist you listen to where you own (or have downloaded) all their studio albums?

I own a ton of discographies by bands with smaller catalogs (<5 albums), but the one's I'm more impressed by are the larger ones I'm near to having, such as:
Rush
Bad Religion
Metallica
Thrice <_<
NOFX
Dream Theater
Strung Out
Led Zeppelin

I used to collect CDs when I was younger, so I have a few full discographies from what I was into back then...e.g. Metallica, Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, U2. I didn't keep it up when the real world hit though so my collections aren't fully current for Metallica and U2. The last band that I really doggedly made a point of getting all of their albums was the Gathering, although I'm missing their pre-Anneke stuff (and *sniff* post Anneke stuff, to come).

I have the entire Opeth, Tool, Metallica (although I own the first 4 CDs) and Megadeth discographies downloaded.

There are probably some more.

Well, on some levels I do for The Beatles, owning at least a version of all 13 of their studio albums. There's still some singles that I don't have that weren't included on these albums, and I don't have all the little bits and pieces off the anthologies, but that's about it.

pow3rtr1p

Yeah, when you don't have to worry about things like paying rent or eating.

Ya, but the band also has to worry about things like rent and eating, and if you don't buy their CD, when it's a smaller band, you're keeping them from making a decent living doing what they love. If you download Metallica, or The Beatles, or some huge band, or a band where everyone is dead, that's one thing. Downloading music from a struggling, up and coming band does nothing but kill the scene.

I more meant bands that have just released their first CD, or have never had sales to even shadow the Billboard charts. Not necessarily local bands (though I'm sure there's something closer than Chicago to see a show at. No scene in Green Bay?)

They both suck

TCOG and ADFD is the only good music they ever put out why do you deny this?

Its A Celebration btw. And there is a couple of good tracks on United In Regret, but We Are The Nightmare is just plain suck. The production is laughable and the new drummer is the biggest joke i've ever heard.

$7 for an album? Cd's here cost at least €10. And that's when they're on discount. Albums often cost about €15 to €20.

I used to go to Record And Tape Traders, which is a local chain around MD and DC. They had good prices and good selection, but nothing beats free!

I only buy albums that I think are really solid and deserve being bought. I mean, there are a lot of bands out there with just a few good songs out of like 5 albums. For me to buy an album, it has to be at least 3/4 good.
