View Full Version : Metal Bands With Clear Vocals?

I was wondering what metal bands, with the exception of power metal bands use clean vocals? I am also intrested in bands that alternate between the growl and clean vocals. The reason why is, I am curious to see what normal rock type vocals would sound like over metal bands, and its been my experience that the bands that are around are few and far between that dont use the growl.

Listen to latter day Katatonia. Based upon what you're looking for, you would probably love "The Great Cold Distance" or "Viva Emptiness."
As far as alternating goes, that's actually pretty big, thanks in large part to a band that you absolutely have to listen to: Opeth. Blackwater Park is pretty much the standard, although it may take some getting used to as the heavy parts are quite heavy.

SYL does indeed growl. Hm, The Devin Townsend Band might be good though as there's hardly any screaming on those projects.

IDK they just never clicked with me. Something feels very forced and contrived about their music, and I never heard anything that really jumped out at me and made me think "hey, I should keep listening to this band."
I don't generally like power metal, though.

Opeth is a fairly good band to get yourself into harsh vocals even though there are other bands that would be easier to get used to, and quicker.

yea ive heard lots of music with growls in it, opeth was the first one i heard that had something more than just all balls to the wall metal. Thats why i like them, because of their dynamics. most bands with growls are heavy all the time, and so over the top that the heaviness losses its potency. With opeth its just another color in their palette. The heavier parts are that much more intense. If more bands were like this i would be listening to more screaming and growls. I think its a useful tool, a lot of bands use it as a crutch imo.
