So ummm...... why does everyone hate this band? their like the most technical band on earth, and their drummer plays some of the most complex rhythms and beats to memorize, so i dont understand why people hate them so much......

um..... yeah... they aren't the "most technical band on earth".
I like em though, they just don't go beyond technicality.

I is amazing
So is the original issue of Nothing
and Obzen is damn good as well
Dimmu Burger
09-08-2008, 08:13 PM
Catch 33 is neat IMO. I prefer Nothing over everything else, but DEI, ObZen, and Chaosphere and really good too.

chugging in weird time signatures isnt technical and complex beats dont make for good music
meshuggah is some of the most insipid music there is
Dimmu Burger
09-08-2008, 08:19 PM
Insipid eh? Gotta look that one up.
Ok I looked it up, I can see your point of view.

I like it. Sometimes I wish it was a bit more melodic, but they're a good metal band. One of the few that doesn't write lyrics about bullshit just so that the vocalist can scream for the **** of it.

listen to textures if you want some meshuggah with slow passages/melody
Meshuggah is awesome...i never knew they were hated but whatevs...catch 33 rules, I rules, and Bleed might be the best song written this year...maybe not but top 10

Textures is really not as good. I love Meshuggah. Sure, they get boring after a while, but the rhythms are pretty nuts.

While Catch 33 in particular is a pretty tedious listen, I've always really enjoyed Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere. Soul Burn is still a really awesome song as is pretty much all of Chaosphere.

There are good BM bands but for every 1 Emperor or Immortal there are hundreds of really gay bands that make BM a little embarrassing to admit liking.

Catch 33 is cool to play every once and awhile. I still need to listen to Chaosphere and Obzen
I like them, but they're somewhat overrated and a lot of their stuff sounds the same.

On Catch 33 every song sounds almost identical. They sound more like some sort of rhythm exercise than actual songs. Except the In life/in death songs, which I remember being pretty good.
Catch 33 is one long song.

Well those people are idiots...
They made an album based around a single riff with 3 or 4 variations on that riff. I really like it, hardly a snorefest like most people make it out to be. Also they are without a live drummer and still manage to bring out an album of that standard, that's fantastic...I know the drums are programmed but that makes it even more interesting, I think...

No...not at all.
TBH I think it's sort of unprofessional for an established band to program their drums.

they did it as an experiment, thats what meshuggah does well, experiment.
oh and TBH i think destroy erase improve is their best album, and ObZen is their second best

I don't like they are without a live drummer, they just didn't find it practical to record a 40 or so minute long song all the way through with a real drummer.
They didn't have the studio time to record drums. That was why.

Meshuggah are going to play in vienna next week or two, but I don't have the money for all the good concerts this autumn.

If what pate said is true then it's not really unprofessional at all.

That makes no sense, they did it on I...and most albums are longer than 40 minutes anyway?
I'm getting mixed opinions here to be honest...
