Basically, albums by bands that started their musical downward spiral.

I would say Mastodon-Blood Mountain
Lamb of God-Sacrament

Slayer-Divine Intervention
Megadeth-Countdown to Extinction

Hmm...good thread idea!

at this point I think:

All That Remains - Overcome
Shadows Fall - Fallout From The War
Finch - Say Hello To Sunshine
Hawthorne Heights - Demo

Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works :(

I know a lot of people think Miss Machines was when they started getting poopty, but IMO that's still a decent album.

Thrice no way dude. No way at all, they went a different direction but if anything their music composition has gotten so much stronger.

Nah, Waking The Fallen was the shiznit back in the day. Even the album before that had a few really good songs.

I admit, that album had some sweet songwriting and guitar riffs, but the screams were so terrible, and he did it so much

No. City of Evil was horrible Guns And Roses wankery. The new album has really really good catchy songs and lots of variety.

I don't really find self-titled to be "varied", the songs each had their very own gimmick attached to them. Like T-Pain Vocoder (Lost), Children's Chorus (Unbound Wild Ride), and even that horrible circus (*scoff* A Little Piece of Heaven).

Look, people have their opinions, and personally, other than all the gimmicks,
I felt the songs mostly sounded very similar.

Dimmu Burger
09-08-2008, 09:15 PM
I see your point, but how can a band experiment if you're always gonna call everything a gimmick?

the experiments they did weren't really experiments...

using a vocoder in your chorus isn't being original.

I just thought it was a rushed piece of work that could have been good, if the band had taken the proper execution, which they didn't.

it's too late, M Shadows has gone into the realm of Axl Rose vocalizing, probably because they have the same vocal teacher.

michael jordan wasnt even that good right before he retired, i remember the bulls vs the jazz, he completely plowed over the jazz' point guard (the name escapes my mind) and basically didn't get called for charging because he was michael jordan etc.

No, Mastodon peaked at Leviathon. Blood Mountain is in no way better than that, although still a decent album.

Ghost Reveries is my second favorite behind Still Life, but Watershed is definitely the beginning of the end for them.

agree with Metallica, and actually see your point for GR, although its great, its the beginning of change that became more evident on Watershed.
